Really disappointing service in comparison to other agents. We were looking to buy and rent with the same agent, went elsewhere with better customer service.
Rented a property in Stoke for 6 months and had issues within the first week. House was freshly decorated but only to hide the mold and damp that was riddled within the property. They literally just painted over the mold, which caused said paint to peel off within days of moving in. A damp expert came out and said it was impossible to trace its source as everywhere was so saturated. Landlord and Northwood admitted that the only solution was to rip out the kitchen and bathroom above. Landlord confirmed the damp and mold was known about before the house was rented out, yet it was rented out anyway. Our guidance was to open the windows and turn up the heating.... in winter. On top of this, the boiler kept cutting out due to a pressure leak (probably what was causing the damp/mold) we were told to top up the boiler rather than Northwood resolving the issue. There wasn't sufficient insulation. Contractors turn up when they want, if they turn up. Staff at the office use any excuse under the sun as to why things aren't resolved or why they don't get back in touch. We had to get the council and ombudsman involved things got that bad. The worst estate agents I have ever met! All the staff do is lie and fob you off! I would seriously advice anyone! *Warning* This obviously is my OPINION but one you should consider.. If there were negative stars I would use them for what was an atrocious experience. We rented from this agent a property in shambles that literally had bugs eating the wood. Upon our departure we were charged hundreds of pounds for damage despite only a few months there. It is my very educated opinion that the estate agent does indeed help their landlord clients to the point of taking advantage of renters..i do not know if it is an ongoing situation but I feel that properties that are of lower quality are the ones being used for this operation. I cannot be specific on a review feed yet but its my OPINION that this is possibly an ongoing scam to maximize monies for their clients (which are NOT you the renter). I am not someone who holds a grudge, this is a sincere concern that I personally would never rent or buy from them again.. I know sometimes when you are not wealthy (like me) you tend to have to accept lower standards of housing, but you should not be fooled or used. I truly suggest you look elsewhere because if you do rent a property which is already a wreck, then it's my opinion they will try and charge you for that wreck... We paid a non refundable 200 pound pet fee so not only does the landlord get that (which I was able to live with) but now hundreds of pounds more. And these were for very minute issues such as a blown light bulb in a room or literally about 12 wild weeds in the garden. I put a lot of trust in this company and was devastated because of it. As I stated, just remember, if you are renting, you are not their client, and in my case, my opinion is that I'm just a walking piggy bank.. I'm sure some will dispute this, but I assure you my words are heartfelt. IN AN UPDATE, I WILL SAY 1 POSITIVE, THAT THE LANDLORD AGREED TO RETURN AT LEAST A TINY AMOUNT OF 40 POUNDS TO US WHICH HELPS BUT MY. OPINION STANDS FOR NOW. I rented a property from this company for three years, I thought they were a good company until I was moving out. The lady that spoke to me dealing with the viewings was rude whilst speaking to Me over the phone and very pushy about viewings done on the property whilst I was still living there as a tenant has rights to say no. I got in contact with them about handing my notice in but did not get a response for a while and every time I phoned no one seemed to know anything about the property I rented. Every time you phone this company no one seems to know anything about the property and saying people will phone me back and don’t. Then this company tried to say I had left the property dirty when I did not just because they do not want to give deposit money back bringing up “cobwebs” around a boiler. I have contacted them over ten times about deposit money and still not been contacted over this. I am also owed a weeks rent I had over paid before leaving I’m still waiting for this also. This company is only interested in people’s money and no one seems to have a clue what’s going on within the company. I am disgusted and sad about how I’ve been treated via the moving out process, for three years I never once missed a rental payment now when I have come to move out they don’t want to give any money back or money I am owed. I will file a full complaint to the director of the company and going through this process now. This review is to make people aware of the experience I have shared with Northwoods and people will be aware once they move out. I will never be renting again from this company and have gone with a much better one.
Absolutely shocking they threaten to let themselves in for inspections when we may be out which is highly illegal - they are rude and very very up themselves in every way and manner. Mark especially is the most disgusting rude man we’ve ever come across - apparently he was in the police force - clearly didn’t last long. Left us to light our oven with a match when we had burnt our arms on numberous occasions - literally so happy to be moving from them. So many things I could list - left us with an unsafe front door for months - all they do come and take a picture nothing ever gets sorted! Don’t rent with Northwood!!!! Never felt like our home we lived month the month with the possibility of them coming round or letting themselves in at any moment!!
A cautionary tale indeed. We had our property let through Northwood. Would not recommend them at all. We have 2 rooms where our carpet has been ripped out and replaced by cheap rubbish. In the kitchen the hob and sink need replacing and even though it states quite clearly in the contract that the oven should be left clean ours is so filthy we will have to get professionals in to clean it. During the period the property was let we were so disgusted by the deterioration of the decor that we paid to have the rooms redecorated only to discover that the rooms have just had lining paper put up, no paint and the job is so poor that it hasn’t even be stuck down properly. BUT the worse thing has been to discover that cable tv has been fitted. We have 2 large cable dishes attached to the back of our property along with miles of cables. Holes have been drilled into the property To enable metres of cable to be put through. In the bedroom a hole has even been drilled through the side of the fitted wardrobe to put cable through. This cannot be repaired. Really I would like to have given no stars.
