Unprofessional estate agents with an inaccurate description of a house that they are selling. They stated that a house had a driveway and off-road parking, however there was not a dropped kerb which means that parking on the small space infront of the house is illegal . The property owner said that he was the owner of whitegates estate agency. He was so unprofessional that he put us off buying the property. Strange to believe that the changes that he had done to the house made the property look worse than it had done when previously sold. It took a long while for anyone to phone back from the estate agents.NegativeResponsiveness, Professionalism

It has been 5 weeks since moving in and I still have no central heating due to a broken boiler. I have called whitegates at least 20 times and sent countless emails but this issue has not been resolved. I regret trusting this agency, they have wasted hours of my time and caused a lot of stress. If the boiler is broken the property should not even be advertised. The staff are friendly but incompetent and out of their depth.

It's a specialist system in the apartment you're in and we were let down by the contractors despite paying them in advance. I rarely leave reviews but feel I have to post this as a warning to any landlord thinking of employing Whitegates as a letting agent. I can not comment on their performance selling property but if the same personnel are involved then I would advise caution. As single property landlord here was my experience over the last 12 months. They allowed my tenancy to run up over 6 months of arrears and still did not notify me. They calculated the arrears incorrectly, mishandled the repossession, provided no communication and refused to reply to phone calls or emails. Provided poor or incorrect information with regard to recovering the debt through the small claims court (in the end I did it all myself). Refused to provide me with the information needed to recover my deposit meaning it took over 6 months and my suing the company through the small claims court to recover my deposit. Even after the CCJ I had to execute a warrant and send the baliffs in to recover my funds! They have sent a statement showing the money is being paid, but have still not paid as of this morning. That is typical of this business which says one thing and does another. Save yourself a lot of trouble and deal with people who do what they say, know what they are talking about, and actually communicate with you! I have rarely experienced such terrible service from any company.

It is not appropriate for us to comment extensively on this forum however it must be noted that Deposit funds are held with the DPS as we use their custodial scheme, we never hold onto deposits therefore cannot be 'sued' for the deposit as it is not within our control. Landlords are notified of arrears (it would not make sense not to tell landlords as they'd soon miss the money not arriving into their account so it does not make commercial sense for us to not communicate with our clients). Ultimately, we are sorry your tenants circumstances changed and they failed to pay, there is always a risk of this being a landlord and we are here to help in these situations on landlords behalf. We look after a large portfolio on behalf of landlords and we only encounter a problem with no more than a handful of properties out several hundreds.

Unfortunately my experience with Whitegates was not pleasurable. I rented via them for around 9 months. This was during a transition period, where they were going from Martin & co to Whitegates, although they were also known as Taylors? Problems begun from check-in day, where the representative didn't have the right keys and left me waiting for 4/5 hours to go and get the right keys. Whitegates, tried to charge me for a renewal of contract from a fixed term contract to a periodic rolling contract as I moved from the initial 6 months to a rolling monthly contract, I had to visit their branch and make clear to them they were in breach of the Assured short hold Tenancy agreement they retracted the charge, although this shows their lack of customer care, and basic contractual understanding. Inspections were scheduled with a reference of a charge for cancellations etc, and pictures were taken, without prior documented knowledge, (I have rented for 6 years with several agencies previously AJR, Nichols Bonfield (both great) and this has not previously happened. Whitegates, I recommend you document what happen during inspections in a welcome pack! Whilst a Tennant I reported issues with the boiler, which took 10+ weeks to get fixed, I was uncomfortable with tradesman visiting the property without my presence, this basic tenant right, created issues for me when trying to schedule repair appointments, it took a total of 5 visits from 2 separate plumbers to get the boiler fixed, that was about 2 hours to fix. I also reported via email to Whitegates other issues regarding leaking guttering, and a broken ceiling fan, neither of which were fixed, or even responded to. Overall their fees are amongst the highest in the industry, (as they are a national and more expensive than local firms, you will get passed from person to person, and not get the personal service you might expect from a local firm. Multiple emails I had sent them, simply did not get a response, it was also often difficult to speak to the right person. Based on other reviews I have read I think their strengths probably lie in sales rather than rentals

Is it just me or does everyone have to wait ages for their call to be answered....and everytime I press 1 for sales why do I get put on hold for ages and then I get somebody from the lettings side answer my call and tells me I should of pressed 1 for sales ...which I did..then they take my details and hopefully someone from sales should return my call...I appreciate companies like to cut staff numbers but to keep costumers waiting for ages..as if your doing them a favour. .is unacceptable

It is a good agency with a wide range of selection. The agents are very good at securing business. However, when it comes to the end of the rental contract, I do not know who to contact as the agent who is responsible to my contract is no longer in the company. Since it is a big company, there is no definite people I could make contact with. The administration within is terrible. It took about a week's time to reply each of my email. Up till this moment, there is no clear solution in how I can end the tenancy properly.

Awful customer service and administration processes. Moved out of a rented property in October and was advised to hold fire with standing orders etc until a reimbursement of £95 from last months rent was owed to me. I’ve since learnt that there was no need to keep the standing order active and at the beginning of December, another months rent came out which they then sent to the landlord. Whitegates are adamant that they can’t refund me my money until they get it back from the landlord. I’m still in the process of getting my money back from Whitegates and had spoken to citizens advice bureau concerning this as I was getting no where with Whitegates directly and extremely stressed. At one point (and then another) I was told that the money would be in my account in 7 working days and when it didn’t come through I found out that this was a lie and they could only apologise for their mistake but still couldn’t refund me my money. I had spoken to many staff members, including the associate directors of Whitegates who to this day are still “looking into it.” Don’t rent from these people unless you’ve have lots of time on your hands to call, email and escalate matters and to then be disappointed with lies and unreturned promised phone calls. ***** The reply from them below illustrates how useless they are. Whitegates transferred on the overpayment to the landlord accidentally out of contract without making the necessary checks and are not prepared to take any ownership for their mistake. Until THEY recoupe the money THEY sent to the landlord in THEIR ERROR, they are unprepared to reimburse me. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!
