Called twice about a flat for sale never got back to me

After taking a house with two different offers to closed bids, Staves didn’t bother calling us to let us know our bid wasn’t accepted. When we called to chase, they took our number and still didn’t call back. We found out the house was sold from the Rightmove listing. Most Sheffield estate agents go to closed bids, but all the others have had the decency to let everyone know where they stand. We’ll not be viewing any more houses with Staves.

Avoid, made an offer on a house. They rang me to say it had been accepted by the vendor. (Cloud 9 moment, then boom) Rang me back in the afternoon to say they have a cash buyer that’s offered more so the vendor has accepted their offer instead. I’m a first time buyer so if this is how estate agents operate I’m not sure if I want to get onto the property ladder. I’m just glad I’d not paid out for all the surveys etc.

Dear Julie-Anne, I am sorry that we were not able to proceed with your offer. As explained to you over the phone and in a subsequent email, a higher offer came in which we were duty bound to put forward to the vendor (as we have to by law with any offer that is received up until exchange of contracts). Unfortunately the vendor decided to accept this higher offer given that it was more than you wanted to pay for the property. I am very sorry if this has tarnished your view of estate agents. At Staves we work very hard to provide a high level of service and have worked hard over the years to build a strong reputation within Sheffield. I am naturally disappointed that you have chosen to submit a 1 star google review to Staves despite the circumstances that you refer to being wholly out of our control. Matt Staves

If your a home owner avoid using this company. Arranged an appointment to view a property at 532 Staniforth Road S9 and was running late by 15 minutes coming from London. Called up the estate agent and spoke to Ben to let them know we are running late and he was just very rude. We explained we are coming from London and are cash buyers and he simply just said they have 2 offers already and was too busy to accommodate the viewing as we were going to be late by 15 minutes. I am sure if the homeowner found out this is the service their appointed Estate agent is offering they would not be happy. The estate agent knew we were coming from London and are cash buyers when initially called up to arrange. Avoid using this company!

Dear Ms Ahmed, I am sorry that we were unable to show you round the property on Staniforth Road on Saturday at 1:15pm as arranged. Unfortunately, we had another appointment at 2pm and therefore could not hang on for you. When you phoned you said that you were running half an hour late not 15 minutes. As I am sure you can appreciate, Saturday is a very busy day for viewing appointments and it would not be fair to be half an hour late for our next appointment because you were running late. I refute your suggestion that the member of staff you spoke to was rude to you. Ben is a very polite and affable young man and it would not have been in his nature to be rude. He also did his very best to try and rearrange the appointment for you. I did try and call you yesterday without success to discuss the situation and to see if you wanted to pursue your interest in the property. Kind Regards Matt Staves Director

Unhelpful, inefficient and plain incompetent. The only time when they cared about answering my emails was when they tried to get as much money from my deposit as possible. My recommendation is to stay away from them if you have the choice. They are really lazy and unorganized.
