Revisiting this review as I was asked to change my honest review to suit them whilst they got there act together. Renting was not pleasant. The agent we had to deal with was forever changing. Promises failed. By the end of the tenancy Winkworth didn’t know what I had been told previously or have any idea in regards to the keys being handed over. Poor communication in the office maybe? Try and challenge them and you will be told you are rude. But if you complain enough the head of property management will take over and provide all the lip service you need, to get your review changed. I could of gone on for weeks fighting for the correct amount of deposit back (charged for things such a broken lamp that was this way when we moved in or being questioned about a broken shower that had leaks amongst other issues for the whole tenancy) left the property and I imagine it’s still leaking in the en-suite shower room. After this they increased the rent for the next tenants. I have since started to rent through a different local agency. Fairer price, a more personal service and contact with the landlord. I would avoid winkworth. Maybe there sales dept makes up for the customer service but renting, I wouldn’t go back. Photos of the water damaged ceiling and old sofa left for me to dispose of from previous tenant. £1250 per month I’d expect a lot better.NegativeQuality, Value

Hi Ben, sorry to hear that you had issues when you moved out of your property last May. I understand that our Office Manager has been in touch in an attempt to discuss this with you.

I wish there was a zero star option! Worst experience with Winkworth Reading, their compensation amount after end of tenancy of 6 months was around 22% of my deposit which was unfair as they included compensation for the items that were included in my check in report (before tenancy) and some cracks they mentioned in check out report for which they were unable to provide pictures. I damaged their paper lamp which was £10 and asked £20 for it. Similarly for one bulb fused they asked £5 each and the list goes on. I wasted a lot of time explaining them with evidences that these amounts are unfair still they never responded and were eager to deduct as much amount as they can from my deposit. Its been 4 months now they have held my deposit and are not responding to my emails. I can see all good reviews are for start of tenancy. I would definitely want people to share their experience of end of tenancy.NegativeResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism, Value

Hi, we are disappointed to see this 1 star review. We have looked in to the dispute you have mentioned and it is now in the hands of an independent tenant dispute company.

This is the worst estate agency I've ever seen in my life. I spent 3 months, including emails and calls, to get me back the deposit. Moreover, during the rental period we had serious structural problems of the flat caused by an internal water leak in the entire condominium, the agency intervened weeks after our call. Also at the end of the contract we were asked to pay the damages caused by the loss, pure madness. I never saw something like that. NEEDS TO SAY THAT PART OF THE DEPOSIT HAS BEEN DEDUCTED FOR A FURTHER CLEANING OF THE FLAT TO WHICH WE HAVE ALREADY PROVIDED WITH A LOT OF INVOICE. PURE SCAM. PS I'm not even so sure that the 300 people who have left positive reviews aren't employees themselves. I suggest you start reading the reviews of only 1 star because they represent the reality of the facts, told by real people and not by employees of the agency itself. SHAMEFUL

Where to begin. Firstly most positive reviews are for people selling so you can imagine what a terrible experience is for someone looking to rent. It's a double-edged sword where they obviously prefer one side than the other. Good luck getting responses even when emailing the entire group of a department. Even then it's absurd how long they take to even consider caring about what you have to say. Usually if your email is longer than a few sentences it's just ignored apart from the parts that they care about (usually 90% of the email). To top it all off we had an incident with the state we found our flat in and they seem to just not care and responded with "Oh yeah it was indeed dirty, the professional cleaner said so". Amazed, just having a wonderful time on top of Covid. I only wish that this lack of interest and incompetence is because of their abilities and not on purpose. Just so I can sleep better at night and not think of how cruel people can be.

No one ever got back to me about a viewing and I had to chase as the agents responsiveness was extremely lacking, perhaps a trainee, but either way not an agency I would consider using particularly if you are in the market of buying where you would really need your agent to be on their game, don't recommend

Not sure I was unlucky with the person I got but I should make you aware my experience with the service has been terrible. This refers to the Reading branch. Not responsive, bad advisory, contradictions, can't communicate internally, no added value on their customer service and surely not professional even resulting on a contract deadline to expire. I do not recommend Winkworth

Avoid Avoid Avoid!I cannot believe how disgustingly we’ve been treated. First of all we experienced mould in our flat. The Winkworth director came to our house, said he fixed the mould, however we were left with mould for over 3 months. They have also tried to charge us for things which were already there before we arrived to the flat. Also, the property management would ignore us during the whole week. Then other employees would say “ She’s out/ She’s busy” every single time. This went on for months. Ironically when PM did answer it would be late evening on a Friday and then they wouldn’t be in till the Monday( not answering again until the next Friday). Just disgraceful, this company. I find it disgusting that you can leave people in toxic conditions where their flat is filled with mould. Then charge them loads of money for several things that do not add up. The director should be extremely ashamed of himself. I also heard other flats having similar issues to us.. so find it funny how they were like “ We haven’t had any issues like this”. Ridiculous and disgusting to treat people like this, especially during these hard times.
