Recently rented a property from northwood. Annie and the team were lovely at first, but when we had ongoing issues, they were very dismissive and rude to us, i.e., not our problem attitude.

Dear Bianca Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your experience with us did not meet your expectations, particularly during what was clearly a very challenging time for you and your family. While we are glad to hear that your initial interactions with our team were positive, it’s disappointing to learn that you felt dismissed when issues arose. This is not the standard of service we strive to provide, and we sincerely apologise if our communication left you feeling unsupported. When it comes to issues such as antisocial behavior, there are legal processes and limitations we must work within, which can sometimes make resolution feel slower or less straightforward. That said, we acknowledge that this does not change how difficult the situation was for you, and we regret that we didn’t do more to make you feel heard and supported during this time. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will be reviewing how we handle similar situations to ensure we offer better communication and assistance in the future. We wish you all the best in your new home and thank you again for your honest feedback.

This has been the worst experience with an estate agent! Initially, the property seemed ok , but within a month, everything started to fall apart. Our belongings became mouldy, the cellar was constantly damp and had a musty smell, and the … More

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify a few points regarding your tenancy. After concerns about the condition of the property were raised, the landlord promptly investigated and identified a roofing issue that contributed to the dampness. Recognizing the potential stress this could cause, particularly during your pregnancy, the landlord gave you the option to vacate the property prior to your fixed term expiring, to alleviate any inconvenience. However, we understand that you chose to remain in the property at that time. Subsequently, the landlord had to serve the relevant notice, as he required the property back for personal reasons, unrelated to the complaints raised. This was done in accordance with legal requirements. We hope this explanation provides some clarity on the situation and wish you well in your new property.

I’ve used this company for lettings they have caused me many problems and thousands of pounds of repairs. With their clearly inadequate vetting of prospective tenants. Avoid if you value your property and hard earned cash. I’ve been landlord and developer for over 30years. I’ve used all of em these are the worst.there is still one or two gooduns out there. Phil stevens.

Dear Phil, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about the difficulties you’ve experienced. It’s important to clarify that, as a let only client, the responsibility for managing and inspecting the property during the tenancy lies with yourself as the landlord. While we assist with tenant placements, ongoing property management and maintenance are outside our remit unless specifically arranged. We strive to provide a thorough vetting process for all prospective tenants, and we regret that your experience 15 years ago didn’t reflect that. If you'd like to discuss this further, we’re happy to address any concerns. Best Regards Northwood Derby

We saw a house for rent on a Sunday night so called the next morning to arrange a viewing, we were told to fill out an application form & they'll get back to us. A few days later we got a message to say they are fully booked for viewings which was very disappointing to hear as we got in touch pretty quickly after it got put on to their website. 2 weeks later I still see this house is showing for rent so I call them up & they said yes it's still available! Not sure why we didn't get a call to let us know it was still available! Again made us fill out an application form & again was messaged a few days later to say their fully booked up for viewings. I repeated this process a week later when again they said it was still available & AGAIN was told they are fully booked up for viewings. I understand there is likely a lot of interest but I don't understand why our details weren't saved the first time for this property & had a call back to say its still available & that we can view it. Just very frustrating.

Hi Tracy, we are really sorry that on this occasion you weren’t able to view a property you wanted to. Unfortunately due to the extremely high demand right now it isn’t always possible for us to show every applicant around and we have criteria policies in place for this reason. Due to GDPR we do not retain client information unless it is specially requested by an applicant. However, we always want to look at ways of improving our service and so we would appreciate it if you could email us to derby@northwooduk.com with your contact details so we can investigate your journey further.

BEWARE! I strongly encourage you to do not to rent from them unless you want to have a massive headache during and after the tenancy period. They will do everything in their power to make sure they can take a slice of your deposit no matter what. Not just that but the management and support, in general, disappear just after you pay them the first month's rent and deposit. Long story short - just after collecting the property keys 1 one of them was faulty and I could not open the door - be ready to pay from your own pocket even if they gave you faulty keys. Want to check the meter reading - pay yourself to open other doors. Troubles understanding how the boiler works and how to adjust temperature? -Find out yourself. Takes weeks sometimes several weeks to respond to email enquiries. If you call them, most of the time not available, and asking to call back - never happens. This is nothing comparing how they make fraudulent schemes with your deposit - first of all, they will make an inventory checklist that EVERYTHING is in PERFECT condition while in reality, it is not. Take a picture of every single corner before moving in otherwise they will say it was your fault and will try to steal your money from the deposit. Also, they delayed almost two months to respond and give back the deposit, trying to convince me dozens of times that the poor condition of the property is my fault despite I had proof that it was already before we moved in. Shamelessly do everything just to grab your money at every single opportunity. They also tried to chase me to pay them early termination fees while there were multiple emails that early termination was agreed upon with the landlord and Northwood. Their hired contractors took parking permit and did not bring back which leads me to face 25£ reduction from my deposit. Also, the letting agent lied multiple times that everything will be "cleaned" and "fixed" before we move in but ultimately not they did clean and fix anything but also blamed that it was our fault for that at end of the tenancy! Absurd. Also, the quality of the property is a joke, imagine their contractors is so bad that instead of properly installing light hubs they GLUED them intead to prevent them falling down! Therefore was not able to replace the light hubs, and even Northwood again blamed me because I did not replaced. Theatre of absurd. Be aware of this letting agency, save your time and nerves dealing with them, I used 7 different agencies in the past and this one was the worst. Trust me, there are dozen of other better letting agencies in Derbyshire.

Hi Ernastas, thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed you didn't raise any of your concerns with our Managing Director either during or after your tenancy before choosing to leave a negative review of our business. We would be more than happy to discuss your specific situation with you so please do feel free to contact us, we have a complaints procedure in place for this reason. I can assure you that 90%+ of our tenant’s deposits get refunded in full and deductions are only made when absolutely necessary. All of our deposits are also protected by the TDS where any tenant has the opportunity to dispute deductions which are made. You had this opportunity to do this, but you chose to accept the 1 deduction put forward. When a tenant wishes to leave a tenancy and they are in a fixed term it is common practice for there to be an early termination fee, you will find most, if not all agents charge this. It is also a charge that is written in the tenancy agreement for all parties to see before signing. Please do feel free to contact us should you wish to discuss any of the points you have raised. We wish you all the best in your new property.

Impolite, claiming that all units do not welcome families with children, discrimination.

I had a viewing this morning with one of the agents Lucy who had the poorest attitude i have experienced while viewing properties. It was as if we were bothering her by asking questions. I really loved the property and wanted to put in an offer but the attitude of the agent put me off. What a shame!
