We have been dealing with Ashton’s on a rental property which we are meant to move into in less than a week. They have been difficult to work with, seemingly unable to sort minor contract details and won’t return calls. We still haven’t even signed the contract despite paying the holding deposit 5 weeks ago. Extremely frustrating; moving house is stressful anyway and these guys are only adding to it. As a landlord myself I’d be mortified if my agent was as poor as this.

We understand that moving house is a demanding process, and we appreciate your patience during this time. We want to assure you that we are actively engaged in finalising the details of your rental property. The delay in issuing the contract was a result of necessary negotiations with the landlord regarding certain terms and clauses. Please rest assured that our team is working diligently to reach a resolution promptly. The contract has been issued to you and w can see you have both signed. The contract is now with the landlord to sign. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we are committed to addressing any issues that may arise. Appalling service leading to a very negative experience throughout the sale of our property.

Working with Ellyshia to purchase a property was not a good experience. I first viewed the property and fell in love with it, I keenly told Ellyshia I would consider my offer and let her know the next day after viewing it. By the time I rang her after work, she had told the sellers to accept a rental offer instead of selling. Despite me saying I wanted to make an offer, the property was gone. 6 months later it returned to market, I would have thought Ellyshia would give me a call or an email just to check if I was still searching, since she knew I wanted to make an offer on it previously, but I had nothing. Luckily I discovered the property again online, and keenly called Curchods to get my offer in. I spoke with Mark who was great, but it was the end of the day so he was going to get Ellyshia to call me in the morning. I never got that call. I called Curchods 3 times that day, and never heard from Ellyshia. On the 3rd call Mark spoke with me, and he put my offer forward to the sellers. A few quick calls later, I had offer accepted! Hooray! Mark got it done! Thanks Mark! Unfortunately, going forward I was dealing with Ellyshia again. We often had games of cat and mouse trying to catch eachother at the right time to speak, she was not available, I was not available, whatever. Every single call from Ellyshia would start the same “Hi I hope you’re wellll” and I will have that phrase burnt into my mind until the end of time. I wish her greeting would change once in a while. It never did. Anyway, I was told the tenant would leave the property in 6 weeks after I got offer accepted, which was fine. Unfortunately, Ellyshia must have kept telling the sellers that the right thing to do was to extend the tenancy because it happened multiple times. Early March turned to late April before the tenant was out. Every time I asked when they were leaving, I got a later date. Despite me waiting several months for the sellers to get rid of their tenant so we could finalise the purchase, when I was waiting for the lender I got no patience from Ellyshia. Every day she rang me and emailed me. Every day I would hear “Hiiii I hope you’re welllll” in her fake friendly greeting voice. Update? Can I have an update? Despite being told I would update her when I have an update. Where was this pestering “lets get this done” attitude in the months prior when I wanted to get into the flat? I was patient with the sellers because I wanted the flat, but there was no patience reciprocated at the end. Even asking Ellyshia for basic information, it took days to get answers. Ellyshia told me the flat had been professionally cleaned, but I’ve spent the past 2 evenings in the flat doing nothing but clean. Anyway, I am happy with my flat, but the buying experience and dealing with Ellyshia was not good, then again everyone else I briefly dealt with at Curchods was lovely and helpful. Thank you Mark for getting my offer accepted so swiftly. It was a shame your swift and effective pace was not kept up in the process by your colleague.

We’ve scheduled a viewing and then discovered that the agent didn’t turn up, we ended up waiting in the rain just outside the property. We then called the agency and needed to explain the situation, apparently the person who’s scheduled didn’t document any details. A person who responded on the phone agreed to come and show the property, so that’s another 15’ waiting. When he’s arrived and discovered that he didn’t have the keys and was expecting to find them in the lockbox, but that was empty. Conclusion: 40’ waiting plus commute waisted. Disappointing experience, i will try to avoid if I can. EDIT: this happened today 8 July 2023.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback Michael. We are extremely sorry that we were late to your viewing. Unfortunately our colleague was held up at a previous appointment, and then the keys were unfortunately not left for us. We appreciate this would have caused frustration, and the sellers would also like to pass on their apologies. We hope we get another opportunity to give you a better viewing experience. Best wishes from the team at Ashtons.

** BEWARE / COWBOYS IN TOWN** Avoid these cowboy estate agents at all cost. Wouldn’t let me view a house with them because I was under offer through another agent. I have reported this to the ombudsman who confirmed they are using illegal tactics to benefit themselves and not working in their clients interests. I have used curchods before but operating differently since management change! If you have experienced the same please report to the ombudsman so they can be held accountable..!

Dear T Hodge The property ombudsman will only review a complaint after an individual has completed the in-house complaints proceedure and upon receipt of the agents 'final viewpoint' letter. With no record of your name on our system, past dealings or any such internal complaint, I cannot see how the property ombudsman could confirm any such claim as you suggest. Furthermore, in the interests of balance and fairness, the property ombudsman would never pass judgment without consulting the agent in question and needless to say there has been no contact or communication of this nature. The suggestion regarding the supposed viewing is quite absurd. For the record we allow (and indeed invite) buyers to view our properties irrespective of who they have sold through, and having been managing the office here in Woking for the past 12 years am somewhat puzzled by the suggestion of a management change. If this is a genuine review please feel free to contact me failing that we will look to report the review and seek removal under conflict of interest. Kind regards Lee Murphy MNAEA

Dear Venkatesh Thank you for your review. As a client focussed company we are always keen to hear details of feedback good bad or different and I wondered whether you might be so kind to provide a little more detail on your experience with Curchods. I can find no record of your name on our system and wondered whether you could perhaps drop me a line on lee-murphy@curchods.com or call me on 01483 77 66 44 if you have a moment. Hate is too strong a word. The web site was too much effort to navigate around. One star awarded not because I hate but for trying.

Dear Alfred I am sorry you experienced some difficulty with the website. Interestingly we did win Best UK Estate Agency Website in 2019 at the International Property Awards, but appreciate that it is difficult to please all the people all the time! Kind regards Lee Murphy - Partner

Dear Steve, Thank you for your review, I am of course sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations but happy of course that we managed to exchanged contracts earlier this month. With a view to providing the best possible service, I am always keen to hear of feedback good bad or indifferent and wondered whether you would have a few moments to discuss this? Please let me know of a suitable time and I will call you. Kind regards

PUSHY agent, Using aggressive tactics to persuade buyers to make offers well beyond the asking price, whilst dodging important questions about the property. We asked them to find out certain things about the property from the vendor and they never called back - says it all. Makes us wonder about the state of the properties they choose. Who knows, we clearly will never find out because they don't call back. Unprofessional service and they only pursue buyers they THINK have money, so makes us wonder if they do pass on all offers? Curchods to explain themselves. No doubt they'll respond below with 'you are not on our system' excuses excuses.

Dear Lara Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry that we were seemingly unable to answer your enquiry and that your experiences fell short of your expectations. I wondered whether you would be happy to discuss this in a little more detail either by phone or my personal email lee-murphy@curchods.com. Alternatively our doors are now open to the public once again and I would be happy to meet you here in the office where hopefully I might be able to answer any questions and alleviate any concerns. I look forward to hearing from you soon and wish you the very best with your property search. Kind regards Lee Murphy - Partner

Called Curchods Woking as they had a property for sale. They told me the property had sold and I left my details with them if something similar came back up. 2 weeks later the same property i queried about was back on the market and i was not informed. I would not use them again just for this reason, and i recall they were more interested in if i had a house to sell to purchase the house i queried about, as i said i was in no chain i believe that's why contact was not made. Terrible!! Be aware

Thank you for your feedback. In the pursuit of great customer experiences we are always keen to hear of all feedback good bad or indifferent. I am sorry your personal experiences did not meet your expectations. While I do not know the specifics, I can say that if you were a registered buyer, you would have received an email the moment the property came re-available. You may also be interested to know that almost half of our recent sales have been to unencumbered buyers, with the questions relating to your position simply due diligence. If you would like to discuss this with me personally do feel free to do so - I would very much like the opportunity to improve your perception of Curchods and more importantly assist with your house purchase! Kind regards Lee Murphy - Partner
