Avoid at all costs. These "people" will try to rob you of your deposit. I wonder how many of the reviews here are genuiine, given that it's very easy to post fake reviews on Google. "Coincidentally" this company has no reviews on Trustpilot, where it is more difficult to post fake reviews. thinking_emoji.jpg

Dear Chris We're sorry to hear you're unhappy with the outcome of your tenancy. To be clear, D + J Lettings does not retain any part of a tenant’s deposit. All deposits are held and managed in accordance with government regulations via the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS). In this case, after the tenancy ended in April 2024, a dispute arose between both landlord and tenant regarding a small portion of the deposit. As per procedure, this was referred to the TDS for an independent decision, which neither we nor the landlord control. We act impartially on behalf of both parties and always follow the correct legal process. 16 Days since they were asked to return my deposit, and still no sign of it, for a property rented from them. Disgusting service. Would never rent from them again.

Dear Kane, I'm so sorry about this but as you know we were very pleased to help you find the rental property in 2014, some 10 years ago, which as you know was managed by your landlord. We didn't know you had moved out of the property and reminded your landlord about returning the deposit which we paid into your account last Friday 12 April 2024. Got an email asking me to leave a review, I don’t give a toss about landlords. People shouldn’t be allowed to own more than 1 home and certainly shouldn’t rent them out at ridiculous prices. They don’t deserve our sympathy and your email asking for pity takes the piss. Do one.

Cal, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I appreciate your honesty and understand your concerns regarding the housing situation. Indeed, the issue of affordable housing is a complex one, and it's important to address it from multiple perspectives. You touched on people only being allowed to own one home. Therefore, if no private landlords were allowed that would mean council houses would need to be built. The lack of council houses being built by both central and local governments is a huge issue. North Hertfordshire council only built 315 affordable homes in the last 10 years! As a letting agent in Hitchin, I have seen first hand the challenges people face in finding suitable housing. Private landlords have stepped in to provide homes for those in need, but I understand that some may feel frustrated with the current state of the rental market. Considering your perspective, I'd like to hear your thoughts on potential solutions to the housing crisis. If private landlords weren't buying properties, how do you believe we could best address the housing shortage and ensure fair and affordable housing for everyone in our community? Absolutely pathetic service. Don't even bother to look at their properties !! Update: I was contacted by Dharmesh, he investigated : I initially had asked for price reduction, their colleagues refused and to my surprise the price immediately came down. I tried contacting them but none of them responded. I now get an explanation that they snubbing me by not responding to my calls and email, doesn't deserve such a low rating. I beg to defer!

After viewing a flat I requested measurements of a couple of the rooms. I was told these would be taken over the next couple of days and sent to me via email. 9 days later and I still had received no response at all from D + J so I sent a follow up email asking if the measurements had been taken yet. Another 6 days past and still we had no response so my partner rang the office to chase it up and was told our message would be forwarded to the right person and we would get an email response when they were back in the office. 2 days later I finally received an email response in which I was told that the measurements had been sent but "the email never sent" and the sketch that had been taken had been conveniently lost. I was then told they would go back to the flat and re-do the sketch the same day and send it over. Another 5 days past and still no response. I rang them again today to find out what was going on, only to be told that the flat had been let somebody else. This has been by far the worst interaction I have ever had with any estate agent, completely unprofessional and incompetent. I will never be dealing with D + J Lettings again and will advise friends and family to do the same.NegativeResponsiveness, Professionalism

Currently a tenant. Came in after work to a freezing flat after a long shift in the local hospital, no running water or heating. I have already had ongoing issues with this boiler. Rang the out of hours was told nothing could be done till the next day and I could still come back to a freezing flat tomorrow as they could not guarantee fixing the issue. Openly admitted that they had opted for a cheaper maintenance contract which is leaving tenants having to endure inhumane conditions. Clearly profit making is the only thing that matters with this Agency.

Dear Caroline I'm sorry you feel this way and we'll make every attempt to resolve this for you as soon as possible. Unfortunately you called our out of hours emergency line at 11.16pm last night and after initial diagnosis we concluded that the best solution would be to send a heating engineer during normal office hours so that any parts etc required would be available. We do have measures to provide a 24/7 service for genuine maintenance emergencies and understand that was utilised to assist you on Christmas Eve. Absolutely disgusted at the lack of customer care. I contacted them before Christmas to request a light bulb replacement in the communal area, with no reponce, eventually after calling three times the bulb was replaced. I have now sent a further three messages and two phone calls with an issue I have with a tree branch growing against the blocks connunal Sky satellite dish with absolutely no response. Does not shout out much about what the sales pitch is on the web site regarding the commitment to their landlords and tenants.
