I have been with Country Properties, now The Letting Quarter for a decade and have never been disappointed. When the time comes to find new tenants, they are in the ball and regular routine checks are always carried out on time. Dependable!
Came to Hitchin for a few weeks after selling my previous home in London. I looked at reviews for The Letting Quarter prior to moving - and they seemed pretty positive. I also visited The Letting Quarter earlier in the year to show interest in renting in Hitchin, all seemed great after talking in-person to someone on their team. I also sent an email confirming my tenant registration details that same day. Followed up that email 3-4 months later after selling my house and got zero response. I was determined to live in Hitchin, so moved up to the area to find somewhere to rent. I once again visited The Letting Quarter and talked AGAIN in-person to someone on their lettings team, who took my details, said that I could view flats/apartments immediately; and also sent my contact details to their colleague who had taken my initial enquiry earlier in the year. Added to this, I emailed the colleague who had taken my details the second time around (as a follow up to re-confirm my interest), and once again, zero response from this email. This is extremely poor treatment for someone looking for somewhere to live. If The Letting Quarter couldn't help, maybe just replay to an email and say that?
Extremely unprofessional and disappointing. The team arranged a meeting with me, reminded me many many times, I sent notes ahead of discussion items to help flow of discussion and using best of time together. come meeting day, I joined 5 mins early, waited, waited, held for 30 mins, sent a note to advise I am here and ready when they are. Still no one bothered joining at all, it replying to my messages (although they badgered me several times before to set this meeting up), or even following up later to apologise for missing the meeting or to rearrange. It’s like a ghost experience. I felt under valued and disregarded. I even made my intention clear my desire was to instruct them and their services. They even had the cheek to ask for good reviews at the time of booking the meeting. One of the worst experiences and examples of professionalism experienced in a long time. + I did not expect this from them. So upon weeks passing, reaching out and still no response I have written this review as they asked, but perhaps not what they had asked us to write.
Sadly I found The Letting Quarter very unhelpful and they made things a lot more difficult than they had to be. I stayed in a flat let by them for over 2 years. I started in November and found quickly that the windows had big gaps making the flat freezing cold and caused mould to grow. I told them about it weekly for months until in March they finally had someone come out and visit the property, and it was decided the windows would be replaced. Simultaneously, when I first moved in I got a number of parcels delivered before Christmas and found that they were being stolen from outside my door whilst I was at work. This isn't down the The Lettings Quarter but when I informed them of this, they were very unhelpful about the urgency of it and wouldn't email the building owner to inform them or request to have CCTV put up - instead I had to contact the building management where I had no response. When it came to moving out, they asked for a £280 cleaning fee when on my inventory for moving in, it was explicitly written that the flat was NOT professionally cleaned. I took lots of time cleaning the flat when moving out and even got friends to help me. But because the bit in between the double-glazing of the oven was dirty and the freezer needed a bit more defrosting, they asked for £280. And when I requested the cleaning receipt it actually said that is all they had to clean. Ridiculous - I am fighting that cleaning fee now with the deposit security company. Finally, when moving out, I realised some letters hadn't yet arrived. I politely asked The Lettings Quarter if when they next have a flat viewing, they could collect my letters and send them on to me, and that I'd pay for the cost. They said no. Instead, I had to wait for over a month for someone to move in, and they very kindly took the letters to the estate agent office for me. When asking to send them on to me, they said no and asked me to collect them. They were well aware that I had just moved to Australia as I said it multiple times. Eventually, I found out I could get Royal Mail to collect it from their office. All round, an extremely frustrating company to work with and I have rented through several estate agents in the past with zero complication. I'd hope that this is a one-off situation or an awkward employee as all other reviews seem positive, but felt the need to share.
Super Rude and Unprofessional. Jo has no interest in working, she has a policy of showing only one apartment to a client, even if the client wants to see another listing they have listed online They will list properties online, which are actually not availble: 1)1st property we inquired, ahhh we are not sure, the owner actually wants to sell it. 2)Let me confirm the viewing time...on following up several times, the current tenant decided to extend the stay. 3)Can we at least see this one......Why are you guys irritating us, you want to see everything? Did not show us even one property, just kept asking us to fill forms...I do not think this agency has even one property with them, they are all fake/ Dummy listings. Avoid them, if you can!
They’re happy to take your details but never respond to your enquiries or get in touch. Extremely poor communication and unresponsive. Disappointing experience.
Rude and age based discrimination
We have been hunting houses to rent in Hitchin, and every time we dealt with this agency there was a constant sense of urgency that was being forced on us. No consideration towards our needs and often they quote an immediate move-in date (at times in a week’s time). Mind you they can reschedule viewings without your consent, however, if at all you have a personal emergency that doesn’t allow you to view a property, you are sure to get cancelled from other viewings. And no emails informing your cancellation are counted valid, only telephone calls work with them 🥲. Whilst every estate agent strives to balance the needs of landowners and tenants accordingly, our experience with their customer service showed how renters are viewed as nothing more than price tags. (PS : We had a good experience with Joanna and Pam)
