Helpful and made our move easy
My experience with Johnshepherds is a terrible one, I moved in to a property they were managing 3 months ago, the cleaning was messy and the house was looking scruffy, there is a damp and mould with repairs to be attended to which is yet to be done despite writing to them about it. My wife complained on the heating and power outage which she wrote to them on their portal and also placed a call immediately because it was freezing cold that day and we informed them that we have little kids. They tried solving the problem via a video but it wasn’t successful, we had to move out to sleep elsewhere. They only sent out a contractor 8 days after our complaint, and we were charge £150 as a call out charge. The staff that was managing the property lacked email etiquette and her senior colleague was rude and sound arrogant over the phone. I started searching for another property to rent because I couldn’t deal with their rude and unprofessional correspondence. Fortunately a new property manager by name Vijay, recently came to inspect the property, the guy was really great, he is very professional to the core, he introduced himself as the new property manager and genuinely apologize on behalf of Johnshepherds. He encouraged me not to quit and promise to ensure that all of our complaints are attended to promptly and even if nothing is done he will keep us updated and try his best to see we have good customer service. Drew is also an exceptional senior property manager with Johnshepherds he has been helpful and professional to me.
We had no problem with John Shepherd whilst living in the property, despite a main light being broken and the dirty oven on arrival. However, the problems started when we were moving out. Not only they tried to charge us money for removing pieces of furniture that came with the property!! They also tried every single thing to charge us for the damages that were also cause by the people living there before us. On top of that, I repeatedly asked to see the inventory, as the previous link expired, but was never sent it, and magically when asked to check it, it turned out that all the things they tried to charge us were actually noted there but no one cared to properly review it. We were treated quite disrespectfully and the emails sent from the agency were in a very condescending tone. Finally, we got our deposit back but what a struggle it was! I wouldn't recommend going with them, after renting for many years, I never had to deal with so many issues on check out.
This agency is not recommended for students, they take advantage of your lack of knowledge & abuse their power. Kai - the property manager was very argumentative over the phone when trying to deal with a situation, he is not very helpful. Also I called the maintenance team multiples times on different occasions & we never received a response from them. When there was a fire in the building, located on our floor, there was no power & tenants were not allowed in the property, despite this the agency / property manager never reached out to their tenants & blamed it on the fact that ‘no one knew’
Reported a problem at my property still waiting 8 days later for someone to ring me back!
Not the best
.Property was tenanted without our consent (found out someone moved in from the building manager of the apartment !) References were from a friend and a brand new employer, the agency staff continually swapped due to multiple leave periods, and overall the communication was defensive and experience was poor. Avoid if you are a first time or overseas landlord. We have complained to management but have had no response and the agency took the full fee out even though we expressed concern around the entire process.
Very poor service. I resent the fact that I paid this branch to make this let far more complex, time consuming and costly than had I self - managed the let. Having taken legal advice on their actions, I was advised that they had let me down very badly and that they were not providing me with the correct facts allowing me to access my property or get works done. They failed to pass on my correspondence to my tenants which caused massive problems, and one member of staff even told me that their primary concern was that the tenants were happy and I was of secondary importance. The whole let appeared to be run along the lines of what was the least hassle to John Shepherd. The cost to me of them taking this approach apoeared not to matter to them. I've only given them 2 stars rather than 1 as the branch head appeared to know his stuff ( unfortunately he delegated my let to others who were less capable ) and has offered to try to talk to me about all the mistakes they made. I do feel I should warn others about the service as it certainly fell way way short of what was promised.
Still waiting for a replacement sofa after 6+ months! The living room sofa was broken when I moved in, which I reported later to the property manager. After over half a year of chasing, I'm still stuck with the same damaged furniture! Every follow-up gets the same generic responses: waiting for landlord confirmation - yet nothing ever materialises. This is completely unacceptable for a professional letting agency.
If you want to deal with an **unprofessional agency that ignores your requests and emails and unfairly imposes landlord costs on tenants, then this is the perfect agency for you. Their lack of professionalism is truly remarkable. If I could give less than one star, I would.
