Bad letting experience : - undervalued the property potential rent income by circa 20% (in the end another EA found a few higher paying options) - no reminders on gas certificate due dates (as others EAs do). It is very easy to set up via a single email - they work with a below par inventory agency that missed a damage in their reports - amazing soft skills, however, if you’re prepared to disregard the rest, hence 2 stars
As someone who has worked in the property industry myself as an estate agent for 13 years it amazes me Curchods has become the successful agency it has. I rented a property with Curchods for over 6 years and whilst the staff have in fairness been polite and friendly enough (That's the minimum I would expect to be fair). Throughout the tenancy Curchods were very slow to deal with a number of issues. In one case we were left without hot water for over 2 weeks, despite regular chasing this did not seem to be a priority for them, the landlord was allegedly always to blame. To compound this further there was also an issue with the water pump for the same length of time, it made a high pitched whining noise, directly beneath our bedroom making it virtually impossible to sleep. Again this was slow to be fixed. Property inspections would be rescheduled at short notice, despite having booked time off work to be present. One inspection during covid, was a video inspection, understandable given the pandemic, this too was cancelled, due to the risk of covid, I am not aware of any cases of covid being spread by video meetings.... We got pushed into signing our contract to renew for another couple of years, this was then never signed by the landlord, surely you'd check with the landlord to see what they want to do before approaching tenants to renew? Other works at the property always took more time than they should to be resolved. Lastly, our experience exiting the property was less than smooth, we moved out in March, had to chase to get our check out report before it was provided, inaccurate in quite a few areas. after getting nowhere with Curchods we had to escalate this to the TDS in order to try and move the process along, it was only then with 24 hours to the deadline for Curchods to submit their response that we actually heard back from them re deductions. Having waited 3 months at this point we were then expected to give them an answer to this within 24 hours. The saga is still going on, and we have had to refer this to TDS to resolve the dispute as Curchods have been unable to provide any context to the deductions or evidence of quotes or work having even taken place, the ammount disputed is relatively low, but for example we have been quoted £10 for a toilet brush we threw away, the toilet brush was second hand when we moved in, whos paying £10 for a second hand toilet brush when you could buy new for £5.... The other deductions are equally silly and mostly boil down to wear and tear which one would expect for a tenancy in excess of 6 years, with the house not having been redecorated since the previous tenants moved in back in 2016. We referred a neighbors family member as a potential lead for Curchods, who ended up renting it at virtually the same price we paid, whilst I am glad our rent never went up and I am glad we were able to help our neighbours relative, we probably would have paid more had we ever of been approached for a rent increase. But this didn't seem to be a thing at Curchods, working in the industry I would expect the property to get circa £500 more per calendar month than we were paying at the end, so I'd reason landlords are getting just as badly looked after by Curchod's as tenants are, especially as it was always the landlord that Curchods blamed when things went wrong. We went on to buy a house which is why we moved out, but purposely avoided viewing anything with Curchods as the experience had been so poor during our tenancy and we were not prepared to have our purchase being as badly mismanaged as our tenancy. I cannot recommend this agency.
Do not rent from Curchods. Shocking experience. They will do anything to keep your deposit. Anything! This includes fabricating issues on check out. Great example why estate agents have a bad name. Ignore this at your peril. 1 Star is generous. I'll do the reply for you: Dear Harry, sorry to hear this. We pride ourselves bla bla bla.
I purchased a house through Curchods Weybridge in Nov. As we got towards completion there were issues and pushback towards additional information and guarantees that my solicitor requested. Once we completed I was not provided access to all of the property and items of furniture were left at the property. The agent did not resolve either of these issues with the vendor and I had to get a locksmith and removals to ensure I had full access to a clear property.
Useless
Had an interaction with Scott Carson and Alkesh Majevadia at the Kingston Branch of Curchods and was disgusted that they are using COVID -19 as a basis to obtain confidential information and screen buyers. They insisted that they were acting in the interest of the Vendors and refused to arrange an appointment to view 29 Avenue Road KT 1 unless I provide details of the deposit amount I would be putting down and mortgage provider. When informed that insisting a person provide such Confidential Information to make an appointment was potentially a breach of the GDPR Regulations they went on to try and justify their actions by saying that it was for safety reasons! People have died from this Pandemic and key workers have put their lives at risk daily to save people regardless of their economic status! COVID 19 is not a screening opportunity for estate agents nor is it a money making opportunity! Nobody would put themselves in a position to ask for an appointment to view a property at these trying times if they were not serious buyers. Further if anyone came to view a property they are in just as much risk as the next person and a first viewing does not translate into an immediate offer! So the reasons that you are seeking this information from buyers is potentially unlawful and a breach of their privacy but more importantly is disgusting and self serving, Next time you turn up for an appointment at the doctors perhaps they should request your financial capability/status to pay for medical assistance before treating you - just to keep doctors safe and to make sure you are not wasting their time given the pressures of COVID 19!
I was looking to rent a house in either Walton-on-thames or Weybridge area and sent them two enquiries about two properties, plus I called them twice and they said they will get back to me but never did. What a shame Danny and Lewis from Walton-on-Thames agency.
very rude agent, made me run away from her rudeness on the phone
Nothing, we had the rudest most obnoxious estate agent show us (I say show us but he stood down stairs huffing and puffing because we were 10min late, with all the temp traffic lights and road closures) told us he had 6min... 6min to show us a £800,000 house, even though we were massively interested we wouldn’t deal with this company again lol absolute joke.
Curchods Weybridge… so quick to take our money, be promised that we had the property and that the contract is being written up to then be told that someone else has gone in with another offer. We are 25 weeks pregnant and have wasted weeks now with Curchods to only have lost time and money that we cannot get back, nevermind the stress to now be had on me and my partner who is carrying our child and the upset on my 6 year old daughter who had been told about her new bedroom. Please tell me what that £500 holding fee was for if someone else can then still go in with an offer? We had even been taken to the property the night before to take measurements of the rooms as new carpets had already been discussed with the landlady. After searching for a home for months now the other estate agents that I had been speaking with have all been told to stop looking as we finally got our home, I now have to call up and be put back on the books, wasting more time. Hugely disappointed with how we have been treated with Curchods and be assured we will not be dealing with them if this is how they treat their tenants.. I would never run my company like this, a total disrespect to my family be aware of these estate agents...... 😡😡😡
