Lied to us over the position of tenants in a property we wanted to purchase. Got almost to the point of exchange before we were told that the tenants had rent arrears, could not be contacted and had damaged the property.

Greedy and unethical would be

Greedy and unethical would be the best way to describe this estate agent. They do not care how they make money as long as they do but cant be bothered to provide any service. They will go to any length to rip off both tenants and landlords. They left me without heating and gas supply for nearly 8 weeks. To add insults on injuries they were charging £360 to wash ripped carpets which they new were being ripped up! The property managers are a joke and the sales/letting team too aggressive and not bothered with listening to your needs. Having said that I would like to single out one agent by the name of George (in the Bishop's Stortford office) who is courteous, polite and very pleasant. I am extremely disappointed with the lies they used all along during and after vacating.

Agreed. Belittling and unprofessional to say the least! In the time I was in contact with them about a purchase I spoke to 9 people (Stortford and Leicester branch too) and not one of them was a qualified solicitor. I was nice to begin with, until issues were not resolved in a timely manner. It's not just management, it is individuals that make work very hard for first time buyers. One of the agents told me that the flat I was purchasing was going to go back on the market in an effort to get me to push the sale, even the seller was not aware of this. What's worse is it was still in the previous applicants name. This has still not been resolved and it has been 6 months since the purchase was agreed. Numerous occasions I tried to contact my "solicitor" (conveyancer) and numerous occasions the conveyancer never replied. Answers were not direct and completely without interest. Not sure why we even pay these people if all they do is mediate for the banks. You have probably paid a lot of money for their service so don't expect to get any help with aftercare. One of the staff members came in and watched the TV, personal items were moved, we let Intercounty enter flat we were renting from them. All trust was withdrawn and they were wondering why we were no longer letting them in unattended. I have given up contacting them now. I asked if there were any outstanding payments that were needed to be paid upon the purchase and they said "NO". A couple of weeks ago I received a bill for £550 for the previous lease holder in 2015. Called Intercounty, again, the conveyancer was not available and will get back to me... Forget it. Pros: Jenny is nice and helpful, that is all.

We rented and purchased a

We rented and purchased a property from them. There were a catalogue of errors through the entire process. The worst being lies and lack of response. Mismanagement right down the chain. There wasn't one single person that I could regularly communicate with directly. Helping themselves to watch TV when they were there to take pictures of the rented property, moving personal items about. Telling me (upon the new purchase) the seller was going to put the property back on the market because I was taking too long to read through the contract, (this was about 4 weeks in). Then me finding out the seller knew nothing of this. Not conveying messages. Complete disinterest. Document system is a nightmare if you're trying to find specific details that Intercounty are not providing. The management company just requested me to pay 550 in 21 days accrued by the previous leaseholder, this was supposed to be taken from a retention fund, which (as a first time buyer) I knew nothing about. I asked one of the staff members a few days ago over the phone about this and she said there will be a fund. Looks like they may have left me out. The seller says they weren't asked. They have etched away at the very core of my being. In short of the damning indictment, please save yourselves the disservice if you're renting or purchasing a flat. Caravans are looking like a nice idea, maybe by the sea, or in the sea, far away from Intercounty.

We rented a flat through Intercounty Great Dunmow recently. Here's my review. Positive points - they're friendly. Negative points. Firstly they gave us a faulty key. The first time my partner got to try it was 1am after a long shift, and he had to wait for two hours in his car in the cold before I heard the phone ring. No apology from Intercounty. We asked them to get us a working key, but they told us it wasn't their responsibility (and they told us they didn't hold any other keys, which turned out to be a lie. Well, their spare key was also broken, but they didn't know that until a lot later, when a potential buyer turned up to view the property!). They provided us with incorrect account details of the landlords for the standing order, leading to wasted time for both us and the landlords. Again, no apology. They then instructed the landlords to get the boiler checked, shortly after check-in. The landlords were in the process of organizing it, when my partner remembered reading in the literature that it had been done about 2 weeks previously! Luckily he saved the landlords some unnecessary expense. A month after moving out, we got an email from from Intercounty asking where we left the keys. Obviously we left them with Intercounty, where else! I told them so, and pointed out that they made a copy of them, and we had signed a form. They then emailed back asking for a copy of the receipt! At this point we'd had enough, so I told them to remove my email address and phone number from their records. It didn't help that the emails lacked any sort of grammar, punctuation etc. It looked like it had been written by an 8 year old. It also wouldn't take a genius to realize that the check-out team had managed to access the flat a day after we vacated, so even if they are that disorganized, they could surely have asked the check-out team who they returned the keys to! To summarize, they are friendly, but I wouldn't trust them to manage any of my properties!

Intercounty is only concerned

Intercounty is only concerned with making a sale, any sale, by any means. They have utterly non existent communication skills, either can't or won't talk to each other internally and treat buyers like they are scum. This seems to be deeply culturally inbred into the firm - every single dealing I have had with them is just miserable. I have blacklisted them for six months as a result of their most recent incompetence.

That said that if I hadn't

That said that if I hadn't complained at the time I had problems with them fixing my hot water on two occasions, leaving me without for 4 weeks first time and 2 weeks the second, it's not their problem, very rude, not letting me talk, not listening to what I had to say, only wanting money. So the story begins with me moving into this lovely newly renovated studo in Bishop's Stortford and signing a letting agreement with Charles David Casson which were nice and lovely. At some point they were taken over by Intercounty Estate Agents who wrote me a letter saying they took over and that was it. So autumn of 2014 my water boiler which indeed was some kind of state of the art machinery, started overheating and the overflow tank on top of it started overflowing, moment when I rang the agency, explaining the situation. They sent a guy who did something to it and said it was OK. Few months later the boiler started leaking from inside, every day more and more, my bathroom floor was flooding and the guys at the shop downstairs started complaining. I had to cut the water supply to the boiler, thus being left without hot water. Of course they didn't bother to send anyone to fix it until the guys from the charity shop rang them. So the guys who came to fix it eventually, about two weeks after I was left without hot water, came to the conclusion it was a pipe burst inside and the whole thing needed changing and it was to be ordered and that would take another two weeks. Ok,two more weeks without hot water. Lucky it was warm outside and I could take cold showers. Finally the new thing card and I had to stay at home, one day of holiday gone, to let the guys in to install the new boiler. Ok I thought, shit happens, no big deal. Apparently the water pressure was too big and they have installed a new water pressure regulator and assured me there weren't going to be anymore problems. By the way this guy was called Andy the famous plumber. So a few months pass and in January 2016 on a freezing cold night, I go to the toilet and I sit down and start playing with my phone, I heard a loud BANG and water gushing out in the cupboard where the boiler was. Of course I jump strait up and I open the cupboard door and I see that the hot water pipe connection had come loose and was spraying boiling water everywhere. On the floor a massive puddle of hot water flooding the bathroom. Of course I try to turn the valve off and it's stuck and I scald my hands in boiling water, I manage to close it half way and that makes it worst because is increasing the pressure and starts spraying even worse and finally, almost breaking my fingers I manage to stop it. Obviously by this time the bathroom is flooded, my hands are extremely sore and red, my phone is all wet but I consider myself lucky that I was there and I've managed to stop it so I'd didn't flood the whole building. I couldn't drive to work for the next 3 days as my hands were bandaged and my phone was dead. So I ring these guys from the agency again and they say they need to contact the landlord as the contractors that come to fix it are from the landlord and not from them and they said that they hope I have used the boiler according to the manufacturer's instructions. Of course I go mad realising that they want to blame me for a work poorly executed and this

Terrible for tennants

Terrible for tennants everyone on my street hated them, tried to deduct 7 per light bulb out of deposit had to raise dispute, let's just say I hold all the evidence not them, they pray on the young and naive but not this time, this ones got a brain! My partner lost his job and was out of work for 4 months everyone who lost there job knows it can take up to 12 weeks for it to process but one of the workers called us benefit scroungers so when my husband found a new job earning x4 the rent we got out of their before they raised the rent on a property and service that's not worth it

Intercounty is all about

Intercounty is all about profit, profit, profit, and they treat tenants with contempt. They deliberately mis-leased a property, claiming there was no noise problem and that the property would be cleaned before I moved in. Upon moving into the property, it was filthy. As soon as I started to raise concerns about the severe noise level with the neighbours, which was seriously affecting my family's life, they issued a notice to quit - in other words they ended my contact. It cost me nearly 6,000 to move and to lease another property, and my family was hellishly disrupted. I was present when an Intercounty agent showed a prospective tenant round the property - yes I even had to grant third parties access to the property when they issued the notice to quit and it was akin to history repeating itself when I heard the agent inform the lady that it was a quiet location and noise was not a problem. Intercounty also set such a high bar upon vacating the property that no one would ever be able to have their bond returned. Indeed, I know the person who vacated the property before me did not receive their bond and they also heavily criticised the tactics employed by Intercounty. This firm needs to be scrutinised by the regulators as it is not fit for purpose. They are actively ripping people off.

There were two properties in

There were two properties in which I expressed an interest. On my first appointment, the agent, Dan Brown, was late with an unkempt appearance and none too smart attitude to match. The second property I arranged to view at the weekend. On the morning of the appointment I phoned Intercounty to confirm the appointment. However, when I arrived at the property, there was no agent. Mr Brown did finally appear at the same time as a potential client with a later viewing. He proceeded to show this client around the property whilst myself and my son were ignored - the appointment was awkward and embarrassing. My offer on the property (although I wish I had walked away at this point) was not dealt with in a swift and efficient manner and it took any point of contact 48 hours in between, with myself being the instigator. I was promised that my interest would be handled by Joe on one occasion and when I called, not having heard from the agent all day, was told Joe was not in the office. In a nutshell, I would not recommend these Estate Agents to anyone looking for a smart and professional service. Thank goodness I found a property being marketed by another agent!
