Unbelievable arrogance. I rang yesterday to arrange a viewing for two houses in central Farnham that I am (was?) interested in only to be told that I must sign up to their marketing list first! I could ‘always unsubscribe later’ I was told. I don’t want to unsubscribe later, I don’t want to be subscribed in the first place. Is it legal to attempt to force marketing consent? I had given my name, phone no, address and email but this was not sufficient, I’d also clarified that I am a cash buyer with nothing to sell. I said I was not willing to give more information and gave him the choice of showing me the two houses or not. He declined saying he ‘couldn’t’ show me them unless I was registered. So, I shall have to carry on my Farnham search while avoiding these clowns with a barge pole. The owners of a small cottage in Castle Street or a house in Arundell Place (already reduced) should know that potential viewings of their properties are being blocked by this agent.

I am sorry you felt the need to air this grievance on Google David and I have investigated the situation this morning. I think there has been some misunderstanding as to why we would like more details than the basic contact numbers which you had provided us with. While we do naturally send pertinent property information to everybody who is "registered" with us looking for property, the purpose of asking for more information than you wished to give us is born from a duty of care to our clients. Clearly it is not in our interest to be obstructive when arranging property viewings as it is the lifeblood of our business but we do assure all clients whose houses we take on the market that we are very thorough with our applicant registration process. In addition to this, we take the security of our staff very seriously and as such we have a company standard on the level of information we expect a buyer to give us. I am very sorry that this was perhaps not conveyed in the right manner and assure you, if you wish to see these two houses and are prepared to allow us a little more information than you already have, we would be only too pleased to arrange this for you. I have taken the trouble to let the owners of the two properties in question know of the situation and they are in agreement that they would prefer we knew a few more details before arranging viewings. If you wish to discuss this further, I will be available via the Farnham office any time you wish to speak. Dan Dewar Regional Manager
