Unprofessional..and layers... ...
My experience of Martin & Co. was a nightmare. Although an initially positive start with Harpreet before moving in, this quickly went downhill. The apartment was cleaned to a low standard by the previous tenant which was noted in the inventory report. Upon moving in, bugs were discovered on the bed and sofa. The agency were informed immediately but as it was after 2pm on a Saturday, there was no one available to contact me back. However, no one that I spoke to informed me of that until after phoning multiple times and talking to various different people on the Saturday and Sunday. Although they contacted pest control, it was another two weeks before this issue was rectified in full. The oven and hob weren't working and then a water mark which was visible upon viewing had grown significantly since then. I was informed that they'd be waiting to ask the landlord about this and told me I'd already cost the landlord too much money. They eventually relented and replaced the oven and hob, but did nothing to address the water mark, dismissing it as a "cosmetic issue". This water mark later became a full leak which wasn't resolved for at least a month (not including any paint work - this was done the month beforeI moved out), and even moved to the bathroom. Communication with this agency from start to finish was constantly lacking, particularly by Harvey and Jagdish. After the tenancy was completed, I waited the agreed time to receive my deposit - it didn't come. I phoned multiple times to speak to any of the three agents that I'd been dealing with, but none responded until I after sent a follow up email. The level of incompetency those in charge of this company show is astounding.
I am compelled to share my disappointing experience, concerning the handling of my tenancy and deposit. Despite assurances from the agent that a new tenant had been secured, which led me to vacate the property, the agency subsequently failed to secure this tenant. In an unexpected turn, they then charged me additional rent, which was inappropriately deducted from my deposit. Good strategy I’d say
My experience with Martin & Co Slough Lettings & Estate Agents was nothing short of a nightmare. After committing to an apartment and taking advance payment, they abruptly backed off due to the landlord's change of heart. Instead of efficiently resolving the issue, they dangled another apartment as compensation, only to back out again after signing the contract. This ordeal dragged on for over a month, causing immense mental stress and wasting valuable time. Their lack of responsiveness to calls and emails added to the frustration. To top it off, the handling of refunding the advance money was sluggish, and dealing with Harvey Gandam was a lesson in unprofessionalism and rudeness. Save yourself the trouble and steer clear of Martin & Co.
They tried to Claim over £700 off our deposit. They hired an "independent" Biased Checkout Clerk to look for silly faults that are really just wear and tear. (Anybody you are paying to do a job is biased and there is nothing independent about them) They calculated a bunch of numbers for compensating wear and tear. This agency clearly tried to stroke the Landlords ego by making him think he could get e.g £200 Compensation for things like painting after almost 5years of tenancy. e.g silly Marks on Laminate flooring , are we supposed to walk in the air? If you do Simple research Painting should be changed anyways between Tenants , especially long term tenancies. When we had an Inspection in January , the employee from Martin n Co said our house was one of the nicest houses he has ever been to and was surprised that we had been there for that long and the Landlord was there agreeing. Not sure how it went from being the nicest house to £700 compensation LOL . To Cut the Story Short we disputed this with the DPS and they were Awarded £15 .
I used Martin and Co because I felt the Harvey who was the sales director was personable and seemed genuine. Whilst he is a nice guy, I would not recommend using Martin and Co to anyone. There has been a number of fundamental problems, i.e they placed a tenant into my flat but did not verify their income, they do not do an income and expenditure so take the tenants income as gospal. The tenant promised to pay the deposit in instalments but never did and Martin and co never informed me of this. Augusts rent was never paid and it took Jag until October to reply to my email. She doesn't take notes on the call meaning she forgets and never follows through. When you chase again, Jag will tell you, she is waiting on you for something (unknowing to me). At the moment, the tenant owe deposit, 2 months rent and Martin and Co, cant even serve a section 21 because they are unaware how to. I am still trying to deal with them but it is clear they either do not care or do not know how to handle the tenant who should never have been put in my flat in the first place
I sent two messages to Slough branch about a rental in Maidenhead. Not only they never answered my messages, they also put my mail to their marketing "spam" lists without my consent. So what I get is no rental but lots of estate news from Slough. Extremely unprofessional and unethical
Absolutely rude and unprofessional. Just called at 17:16 to enquire about one of my properties I’m looking to sell. The lady who answered the phone said “it’s 7pm why you calling me at this time” the time was 5:16pm firstly and secondly your details on google do not specify your closing time. Lastly how unprofessional to answer the phone in this manner. If this is how you treat your clients before they’ve even instructed you, then definitely not worth a phone call. Plenty of other agents in Slough to visit. Thank You.
