UPDATE 06 Feb 2020: one month since I reported water leak rotting ceiling and window frame, no actions taken. This Friday it'll be three people/contractors who've come and visited the property and provided quotes to each of the agencies, one being Parkers. Basically, if you can avoid renting that's great, if you can't PLEASE don't use Parkers they're one-way traffic. It's the gift that keeps on giving. Also note: if you can learn from my experience it's great, I'm sure when I leave my property they'll (Parkers) be as brutal and unreasonable as possible to squeeze every penny from us (they work for money and Landlords pay them) BUT if these reviews can make you aware of letting agencies, I'd say my effort is not wasted. ----------------------------------------------------- I've been a long term tenant with Parkers, they're a mixed bag to be honest. Positive: If you report an issue they'll spring into action and get it fixed, Bravo! Things I don't like include: they push hard and early to get tenancy contract renewed. If you want something replaced or change - best of luck! monthly property visits are one way traffic - they'll never find something wrong with the property only designed to investigate if you've done something to the property. Good thing: for a price you can get everything, I wanted a letter for my wife, charged me £60 pounds which will be adjusted against referencing fees, it's just a letter I'll pay referencing don't have to be like that. I think in all fairness Parkers letting is there to support landlords more than tenants, I don't blame them, they make money from landlords not us. I am a long term tenant with Parkers so have tried to keep the above objective.

In response to your updated review, I would like to provide further detail on this issue experienced and the action taken by Parkers. Before we could go ahead with the works, we had to allow time for the leak damage to fully dry. We then had to obtain 2 x repair quotes for the owner of the flat above, who was the one covering the cost of the repair and we then had to wait for the funds to credit our account in order to settle the invoice upon receipt. We have kept you fully updated throughout the process and I have been informed by the contractor that repairs took place this morning. Unfortunately, repairs of this nature can take time to resolve and given the fact the source of the issue came from another flat which is not managed by Parkers, we acted as quickly as possible. The photos of the advertisements are very exaggerated. They must be taken when the house was refurbished, also they are using special camera lenses to show the property larger than the reality. There are huge difference between the reality and photos. It is waste of time to arrange vieng and spending resources. I am sure noone buys house from the adv photos.

Sometimes competent, but forget to turn up to their own viewings and also spring hidden fees on you at the last moment.

They were all nice but when I went to put down my deposit they told me I had to have a guarantor or 6 months rent in advance as it was my first house of my own and rubbish cred score due to mistakes with telecoms in past I said I couldn't have a guarantor not possible not everyone is going to be able to afford 6 months upfront or have a guarantor so what your going to take all there deposits too and not give it back even though you mentioned nothing of costs for signing a contract

very poor customer service when talking on the phone.

The worst experience I've had with an estate agent in Reading, which is saying something. There were so many problems that I ended up moving out within a month. A lot of the problems were to do with their dreadful customer service: - During an issue where I had no heating (in November), they provided two small heaters (for a two-bedroom house), but not for four days and not until the day it was fixed anyway. When the agent handed them to me, she said "Are you happy now?" - No solution was offered to the issue of having no hot water at this time, except when my property manager recommended that I fill the bath using the kettle. - I was told that no one at Parkers has the authority to engage an emergency plumber, which strikes me as an extremely dangerous policy. - My property manager refused to answer my calls after I dared to suggest that Parkers weren't being very useful. - They disagreed with me on an extremely important issue affecting the property, despite the fact that I had provided evidence and they had provided no counter-evidence. - They couldn't be bothered to read (or write) e-mails properly, and so I was often asked questions I'd already given the answers to. In addition to that, when I looked around the property it was in need of a professional clean, which I was told it would have. And indeed it did have this - but it occurred before other remedial work took place, so the property was not clean again by the time I moved in. Please don't put yourself through the aggravation. Find another property that is not marketed or managed by Parkers. EDIT: Regarding the response from the owner, please note that they have quoted the initial response from The Property Ombudsman, and not the response upon appeal, which upheld the complaints about customer service.

"I have not supported the areas of dispute raised by the Complainants. I am satisfied that Parkers (Reading) did provide a service consistent with their obligations under the Code. In particular, I am satisfied that Parkers (Reading) provided appropriate information to the Complainants and attempted to resolve their concerns as quickly as possible."
