I found a place I was interested in renting and Hunters Reading were the agents facilitating the viewing. I was happy with the place and made an offer. I found Hunters to be quite pushy when it came to payments and paperwork they wanted, but when I requested to facilitate one item (my mattress) to be stored at the vacant premises which I would be occupying the next day, I was told I could not. This would not have caused a problem for the anyone at the property and I was sure the landlord would have agreed to it, however, despite numerous requests, they did not consult him until a week later when it was too late and although he agreed once he was asked, I had already placed it in storage. It meant that I coudnt move in straight away and I had to then pay for another removal service to move it to the property at a later date. I found this extremely frustrating and unhelpful. It just added further unnecessary removal costs and accommodation costs. Disappointed! I felt that they were only concerned with their own interests and mine was ignored.

The agent was very helpful in taking us round and answering our questions. They were very responsive when we had questions about the property, or the offer process. However they were not very knowledgable about the property which is managed by the landlord. It lead to incorrect/misleading information and changes in the price of the rent. I was disappointed to find that the washing machine was metered when we were specifically told it was not when we viewed the property. I was also suprised to find out we are locked in to Virgin Media for internet when we arrived at the property, despite the agent not mentioning this restriction when asked about internet. In addition I had numerous problems with Hunters online portal not liking my main email address (which they were using to correspond with me at the time).

Hi James. Thank you for your review. In terms of being locked in with Virgin Media this is also information to us as we never knew this was the case and we will be discussing with the Landlord so we can know this for future reference. As for the coin meter for the washing machine, I am under the impression you did see the washing machine area but again, apologise if this was not made clearer to you. I apologise for any inconvenience or stress this caused you for your move in. In regards to TecLet (Hunters online portal), sometimes e-mails are not received by applicants from this system and sometimes we will ask for an alternative e-mail address which then did work.

Horrible. My agent instantly struck me as a sleazy salesman type. After agreeing to rent the property (from psychopathic landlords, might I add), he sent me an email saying something along the lines of "I'll be assisiting you all the way up to your move-in date". That was the last I heard from him. When I came to the agency to pick up my keys, he was at his desk pretending to not see me. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Dear Michal, Your feedback is crucial for our improvement. You have implied that you did not have correspondence/hear from the agent you were dealing with but we have had a look through our records and have found correspondence between yourself and the agent you dealt with which include: February 2024 – Correspondence includes sending you the application form to proceed and confirming we have received a holding deposit from you March 2024 – The agent chased you to request you start your references as this was nearly a week overdue to start and you confirmed you were sorry and then proceeded to upload the documents April 2024 – The agent informed you that keys for your new property are ready to collect from our office and you relayed a time you will collect them from us at our office. As for the comment regarding your Landlord, we have spoken with them and understand there was a breakdown of relationship during the tenancy from both sides and understand this is one of the reasons you vacated the property. If you wish to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to contact us

scammers avoid this agency. On 10th March I had a viewing of a house on Halford Road, Reading with agent Anish. During the viewing of this house I noticed that the fence on the left side in the garden was damaged and missing 2 segments of the fence. I asked Anish if it would be repaired he told me it would be done that day. My next comment regarding the condition of this house was a comment regarding the ceiling in one of the rooms where there was a bulge. I asked Anish if it would be repaired he said yes it would be done. My next comment regarding the condition of the house was the corridor downstairs where the wallpaper was torn and painted over on one wall. I asked Anish if I was repairing that too he told me yes. When it was enough to sign the lease I asked Anish if all my comments regarding the condition of the house had been repaired. He replied no and brazenly denies that he did not say anything like that that something would be done. Common scammers. Now I have a problem with them because they do not want to give me back the holding deposit. That's why I've already reported the whole situation to Citizens Advice Reading who told me they have no right to keep my deposit.

Dear Rafal, I am sorry to read your review and your feedback is important to us. The only conversation we had which I said would be repaired was the garden fence which belongs to the neighbour and not the Landlord of the property. Just before the move in date, I reached out to the Landlord and the neighbour had confirmed they had not yet done this but would do so and did not provide a timeline. The Landlord was under the impression the fence would be fixed for the move in date but this is outside of his control as the fence is not his. With regards to the bulge in the ceiling, you asked if the roof had leaked and I checked with the Landlord who confirmed it had not leaked and the room was recently painted and I confirmed if any leaks occur in the future, the Landlord would repair this but at the time of viewing and contract signing, the ceiling was newly painted and in good condition. As for the corridor downstairs, I confirmed this is as seen and will not be repaired. We then discussed over email about the works and you said you would not proceed with the property with the above in mind so we proceeded to find a new applicant and when we did so, you then confirmed you wanted to move into the property and insisted on doing and sign the contract but we had found a new tenant by this point. We have not kept your holding deposit in full and refunded you over 50% of this. If you wish to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to contact us

For everyone reading this Hunters is the rebranded version of Westgate students!!! If I could give them zero stars I would. I had the misfortune of renting an EXTREMELY overpriced, poorly ventilated 2 bedroom apartment on Erleigh road through Hunters (previously Westgate) from a landlord called Sunny who was incredibly rude and invasive towards myself and roommate during our one year lease. He entered the property I was renting a handful of times WITHOUT permission despite knowing two woman lived there alone and almost walked in on me showering. He also lingered outside my apartment door on several occasions and stated to my roommate I was “rude” because I expressed my discomfort in him constantly standing outside our door and refused to respond to his almost daily phone calls/messages. It got to the point where it was causing me extreme anxiety to speak with him and so I and my parents, informed Hunters (Westgate) of his unprofessionalism and they ignored all of our emails. Hunters (Westgate) agents also entered our property without 24 hours notice (as stated in every contract they provide) and I on more than one occasion, had to block entry to the door with physical items as they would attempt to come into the locked property despite not asking prior permission while I was there alone and being informed we did not approve of any viewings. If you’re looking for a student house in Reading do NOT go with Hunters (Westgate) or rent from Sunny unless you want to be constantly harrassed and wake up to your landlord or 4 random strangers in your bedroom at 8am.

0 stars if possible. Just so awful, had the worst renting experience with them - they used to be called Westgate now called Hunters. We had to take our landlord to court as we couldn't get our deposits back, they charged us for ridiculous things. The landlord fixed things really slowly, and arrived at night without notice. Also, house had mould hidden behind wardrobes. DO NOT USE
