Dreadful student rented accommodation. Multiple issues - problems photographed before students moved in. No double-glazing. Excessive mould on curtains caused one student to end up in hospital with pneumonia. Hospital acknowledged the mould was at fault - eventually cleaning firm sent round. Deposit yet to be fully repaid etc... not recommended.
Rented a property from JW Wood and found them to be completely unsatisfactory. -During a property inspection while our flat was vacant, their staff negligently altered the thermostat resulting in an electric bill exceeding £1,000. We had to beg them to contribute to this bill and were forced to threaten legal action. No apology was received -Staff conducted an unprofessional check out inspection where they expressed their glee over tiny specs of dirt found in remote corners of the flat. Following the inspection, they wrongfully deducted more than half of our deposit. -During our deposit dispute, the agency submitted inaccurate evidence to the adjudicator (TDS), using pictures of ANOTHER flat to justify their deposit deductions. We received the majority of our disputed deposit back after lengthy proceedings. -An entire year after we left the property, they mistakenly sent an email for the current tenants, disclosing that they were deducting over £700 from their deposit. It was distressing to see that even a whole year later, JW Wood could not even bother to check the names of who they were intending to scam next. Students avoid renting properties with JW Woods. Landlords, if you want to retain an ounce of professionalism, choose another agency.
Duplicitous charlatans. We put in an offer for a property, which was accepted by the landlord and we were told we would be contacted to start referencing/application process but received nothing from them. When I chased this up I was told that they had let agreed with someone else and the agent had the gall to try and laugh it off and made-up feeble excuses. I was never contacted to say that another offer had been accepted or that ours had been rejected. This has caused us a huge unnecessary stress in our move and will likely leave us out of pocket as well. If you are looking for a home, avoid this company at all costs - if you look at the other reviews, the vast majority of the positive ones are from landlords & sellers, not renters or buyers.
Unpleasant experience. The agent lady who came over to let me see the house was very rude and unprofessional. She barely answered my questions and she promised to come back to me on issues I pointed out in my view but she didn’t
Incompetent through and through. Exceptionally rude staff.
Rented from JW Wood, and they acted extremely unprofessionally, frequently came to our house unannounced, did not send a check-in report upon move-in, charged us £1560 at checkout (which we just got back via a TDS), lying and unprofessional emails, landlords and tenants stay clear! The only positive was that Chris Cain was very professional, kind, and helpful.
We bought our first home via JW Wood. The whole experience left a lot to be desired. We viewed the house initially, they had booked back to back appointments and presumably allowed for the same time slots as they would have for a terraced house; there was not enough time to properly look around. However, we put an offer in, once it had been accepted we requested a second viewing; not a lot to ask for one of the biggest purchases you’ll ever make! During the second viewing the estate agent continually made sarcastic comments regarding whether “fairies” and “pixies” had moved anything, “there’s no massive changes”, “is it as you remember”, followed us around closely etc. I can only presume she made discriminatory presumptions about us and thought we were wasting her time as we were first time buyers, in our twenties buying a substantial detached house with large gardens. Not sure why she had these presumptions when we had already had to provide proof of funds and had an offer accepted etc. I won’t go on but the rest of the buying experience with Woods felt disorganised and lax yet hurried and pressured towards closing. Even collecting the keys to our first home didn’t feel like a positive nor memorable experience. All in all, when we come to sell and move on; we would not use Woods.
The most backstabbing, shady and rude estate agents in the entire county of Durham.
We’re all familiar with the general poor quality of many estate agents, particularly in then current strong market where they take buyers for mugs. These people have added a new dimension though - rudeness on an industrial scale I’d made an appointment to view a house is Durham - nice place - unfortunately I couldn’t make the viewing so I emailed them to cancel with plenty of notice. Didn’t make a blind bit of difference - at the allotted time miss arrogant called me and without introduction simply accused me of not turning up to an appointment. When I pointed out that I had given them the courtesy of a mail she laid straight into me - to who, when, we didn’t get it etc etc I refrained from treating her with the disrespect she showed me and politely ended then conversation. If you own a rather lovely cottage in Esh and are selling through this shower I suggest you find a more professional outfit whose employees understand common courtesy I will not do business with this agency again
