left the property early, paid full re-letting fee even though it was only three months to the end of my contract. only to find out that they have listed the property in the market as available at the date that my actual tenancy runs out rather than "available Immediately", so that they can charge the landlord full re-letting fee in three months. I called them to see why they have done that and they changed the dates immediately to "available now" and outright denied such thing has happened.
Complete and utter joke of a letting agent. My Mrs and I moved into a shared house on Kingsway, that was managed by Martin & Co. Upon viewing the property we were told by the agent that we would have our own private garden, that would be fenced off and that the driveway, which looked like The Somme, would be fully tarmacked. This never happened, we never had our private garden nor was the driveway tarmacked. We had a variety of issues whilst being at the said property and despite numerous reports on the app, nothing was done about it. I tried on several occasions to organise a meeting with the director of the company, David McKnight, but he never got back to me, despite numerous phone calls and emails. One of the most pressing issues was that we went for one whole month without hot water in the Summer of 2016, again this was reported numerous times and it was only when I went to the office in person to tell them I would withhold the rent ( We paid £510 per month with all bills included) that this was sorted out. My Mrs fell pregnant and we had an issue in the house with one of our housemate's boyfriend who was confrontational and caused a massive issue in the harmony of the household. He threatened and became violent towards our housemate, which caused stress and panic to my pregnant wife, so much so, that we had to call an ambulance out for her. When both myself and our housemate, reported this to Martin & Co, who are supposed to be managing the property, the did not respond at all. This was the final straw as far as I was concerned. When we eventually moved out of the property, it took us over 6 months to get our deposit back because Martin & Co argued that we left the property in a disgusting state and it required cleaning. However, I had photographic and video evidence of the room on the day we moved out and sent this to The DPS, who got back to me today, informing me that my deposit will be repaid into my account in full. According to the DPS, Martin & Co did not send any evidence as to why they withheld my deposit. They tried to withhold the deposit without evidence, which in my book, equates to robbery. Martin & Co in Derby are the most unprofessional and unreliable letting agents I have ever had the displeasure of coming across. They will promise many things but deliver nothing and when you call them out in these things, they accuse you of lying, despite the fact that all the emails they sent me were saved and I showed these to them as evidence. They are an absolute disgrace and I can't understand how they are still allowed to operate. My advice to anyone looking at letting in Derby is to avoid this letting agent like the plague. I only rated this 1 star because it is not possible for me to rate it a minus star. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
Awful, Awful, Awful. You can report maintenance issues for months on end and nothing gets done. Terrible management (David McKnight) - extremely rude and will lie to you regarding issues you have reported just to get you out of his office so he can do more viewings for poor, unsuspecting, potential tenants. AVOID THIS PLACE REGARDLESS OF PROPERTY AS A TENANT.
The worst customer experience imaginable. The wrong key had been given to me, which did not give me access to the flat on move in date for hours. This was extremely stressful. When I emailed the Managing Director of the company, David McKnight, to explain the situation and convey my dissatisfaction , he quickly covered up for a tumultuous "cock up" on their end of the deal and said to me that the correct key to the front of the flat had simply "fallen off" from the main set of keys. This is hugely irresponsible. And he also had the cheek to say that I was not "too greatly disadvantaged"! To summarize, Martin and Co Derby are incompetent, irresponsible and have poor management. I would not recommend any Tenant or Landlord to use their abysmal services.
Appalling customer service. You'll probably do better with any other agent in Derby. I was a tenant at one of their houses. From the very beginning, it's been an awful experience. It was a late start to the initial house visit because the agent didn't bring the right keys with him. He couldn't answer questions regarding the house nor the contract. When I went to their office to sign the contract, they weren't fully prepared with all the documents. There were also so many hidden expenses which was frustrating. Luckily, I had a fantastic landlord, whom I dealt with directly for the next few months. Finally, when it came to moving houses, it took Martin & Co nearly three months to get my deposit back to me! I had to keep calling them to remind them about it, as it didn't feel like it was a priority to them. A shocking experience! They came across as very lackadaisical and unprofessional. I have dealt with a number of agents in the past. Martin & Co were undoubtedly the worst in terms of customer service!
ABSOLUTE DISGRACE !! For 3 years this letting agency has moved in troublesome neighbors next door for us. Music all day every day, children bouncing off the walls, the adults having full blown rows constantly in the garden. The local drunks use this house as a pub and yet MARTIN & Co do NOTHING !! Happy to receive there payments each month with no regard for the filth there placing beside people. We asked for the landlady's number as she the owner of the property, no they cant do that. Why is that ? The landlord/Lady have a right to know what goes on in the house they allow the letting agents to let out right ? I have video evidence, i have voice recordings, time and date stamped. Local Councillor has been notified as have the environmental health department. Regards Rob Matthews
I used Martin & Co as a Letting Agent on my single property for 22 months; although at first they appeared proactive and forward thinking, this was clearly just a veneer to attract customers. Sticking to the facts, the following reasons led to me finding ‘anyone’ else: Not proactive with finding new tenants and minimising voids. Expensive fees when compared to the quality of service. I was not paid rent for 3 months, Martin & Co didn’t even notice A large urine stain on the carpet was not noticed on a tenant’s check out. Poor communication, although Holly P seemed to be the only positive to speak of. I received rude and threatening emails when I suggested leaving. An appalling overall service with much left to be desired. Seriously do yourself a favour and use absolutely anyone else.

I am so disappointed and outraged with derby martin and co. I have had so many problems. When I managed to find an agent and property that treats people with respect they told me they don't have there ID code so I can't get my deposit back. So if u go with martin and co watch out. I would give them 0*
