I saw a new build apartment online advertised in the Long Eaton area for a reasonable price. I proceeded to make the usual protocol- contacting the agency to arrange a viewing. The estate agent took my details and booked a viewing. When it came to the viewing, I rang before hand to confirm that my appointment was still on. It was confirmed that my appointment will be still going ahead and that the agent will meet me at the property. I made my way confidently to the property. I waited patiently in the cold and rain, eagerly awaiting to view the property. 10 minutes had passed, but no sign of the estate agent. I called the Martin and Co back. They then apologised and stated that they have no record of the viewing appointment. I was absolutely stunned and shocked at the level of confusion and unprofessionism that had just taken place. Especially, when I had made an extra effort to ensure that the appointment was still on, knowing that I was coming from a long way by public transport. Martin and Co then stated that they will booked and appointment 3 days later for me to view the property. After making a complaint to the manager, I accepted their apology and agreed to booking another appointment. I had asked for an email confirmation of the appointment- which despite after two phone calls I did not receive. However, on the day of the viewing, I did get a courtesy call asking me to confirm whether I will be attending. I confirmed. I viewed the property and made an offer the following day. Fees were paid, ID's were produced and the referencing process started. During the referencing process, I had queries regarding referencing and the property. I found that the lady handling my file was very lax and and slow in dealing with things. Many occasions it took countless calls and messages for her to get back to me. She even advised me to hand in my notice to my current landlord, before confirming crucial information such as the building completion date. I stated that I did not want to put myself and my family in the position to become homeless. She advised "don't worry everything will be sorted out by then, just hand it in". Three weeks later, I received an email stating that there was a delay in the moving in date and they will confirm the new date shortly. Another email was sent a week later stating that the council had not signed off the new builds and unfortunately we will not be able to proceed with the move. We were informed that all fees paid will be refunded. As you can imagine, I was highly frustrated at the situation and also myself for not staying clear of Martin and Co from the outset. The warning signs of unprofessional conduct, unreliability and a lax attitude were present. I have sent several emails and made several calls and messages requesting for the refund to be completed and still no sign of Martin and Co refunding the money to us. I am deeply saddened, frustrated and appalled at the extremely poor service that I have received. I will be making a formal complaint and want to make others aware of this company. Please beware and stay clear.
I went to look at a property last week which was in need of many repairs. When I mentioned this to the agent she had to ask what repairs I meant so obviously hadn't inspected the property herself. I asked her what should be standard questions asked by a potential tenant and she looked like a deer in headlights and couldn't answer me. When I asked if the landlord was responsible for tidying up the garden before a tenant moved in she said no, it is the tenants responsibility. I then mentioned that the garden was overgrown and needed attention; she tried to tell me the property had been empty a few weeks and that's why it was overgrown (it was at least a couple of years worth if it had ever even been touched before). I then asked the agent to contact the landlord to see if they would be willing to see to the garden and the repairs before putting an application in and she said she would get back to me. I didn't hear from anyone so I called today and the agent told me someone has put an application in already and it's going through referencing! When I said I'd asked her to get in contact with me she lied again and said she had told me at the viewing that I needed to go into the office and fill out forms?! Completely unprofessional and obviously don't care about the state of the properties they are letting.
Very very very poor service indeed absolutely disgraceful no follow ups and very patronising. I strongly urge do not use these at all. Could not wait to end my business with them. Pathetic.
Discusting service rip people off claim for anything so u don't get ur deposit back don't use these robbing Muppets
Would off recommend but since Stuart has lefted we have had nothing but trouble with this house battling to get the repairs done!! Stuart made us comfortable with everything from signing to moving in he was always asking how everything is going n to see if we needed help with anything!!! Martin n co has seriously gone down hill we r still battling to get the damp work sorted which has been like this for nearly 6 months!! Still waiting on my toilet to be sorted and not leaking!! Still waiting on my boiler to be fixed!! With two kids this is stressful when they have got people to come out we haven’t been informed they have either turned up n let them selfs in my back garden or they’ve knocked on the door!!!! When ask Martin n co about this they don’t know anything or they never get back in contact with u they promise stuff will be done they promise to phone back but they never do!! So save urselfs the trouble don’t go with these because I will not be renewing my tenancy because it’s been nothing but stress since I have!!! All they want is ur money they don’t care how u have to live with two kids!!!!!!

The attitude of staff seemed to be one of playing games to get the most out of a customer rather than offering good service. I was left for a month waiting for the repair of a leaking water pipe.
Landlords avoid Martin & Co. Since the franchise was combined with Sheffield the service has declined. A fully managed contract; we had to write the property listing detail (their attempt wasn't even credible as a joke), we have to prompt the agent to chase late payment - on one occasion they had received payment but chose not to transfer it, they now suggest an inventory (unfurnished) is an extra charge and if you don't undertake it deductions from the bond are impossible, the mid-term inspection (if they're not too busy and actually have time to do it) doesn't match the property - we've lost a bedroom and downstairs WC and the level of detail isn't much beyond the property exists, need to speak to someone - they are busy, and no, they won't call you back (your tenant will also have difficulty contacting them too). You can't have contact details for YOUR tenant because of the Data Protection Act, you can't have a copy of the tenancy agreement because it belongs to them! The recent requirement to provide smoke detectors - Martin&Co email advising of the requirement stating if you don't reply immediately a contractor will be sent to install, obviously the already fitted mains powered alarms are not listed on the inventory and no, despite not replying to the email they didn't send a contractor out. I could continue.....
