Cost nearly £4k to move into a dirty flat, with a marked stained carpet and with "repo" stickers all over the sanitary ware. Fobbed off on basic repairs for over 12 months. Aggressive, nasty, greedy and bullying (was actually threatened by the landlord) and compared with London agents nowhere near as professional. Avoid.
Worst place I’ve ever stayed. Rats in the walls, filthy laundry machines that were unusable, and the lift broke down constantly. Martin & Co staff walked in on me while I was asleep, then tried to charge me hundreds for imaginary “repairs.” They kept my £400 deposit and demanded £920 more with no receipts. Place is a scam.
My experience with Martin & Co Huddersfield was full of broken promises. From the start, communication was awful — emails were ignored, and important updates were never passed on. I was told certain facilities would be working and clean, but the laundry room was filthy and constantly flooded, and the lift barely worked. When I raised concerns, they acted like it was my fault for expecting basic standards. I would not recommend them to anyone looking for honest, professional housing support. Disorganised, dismissive, and clearly prioritising money over tenant wellbeing.
I’ve never seen a lettings agency treat tenants with such little respect. There were times I came back to find my room entered without notice, lights left on, and no explanation. The communal facilities were neglected — filthy laundry room, frequent pest issues, and constant noise disruptions. It was clear the agency cared more about money than tenant wellbeing. If you’re a student or international renter, stay far away from this company — they see you as easy to exploit.
I was a resident at 34 Wood Street Studios. The building had severe hygiene issues — rodents, broken lift, and laundry units full of dirty water. My room was entered without consent while I was sleeping. I was wrongly charged an extra month’s rent, had my deposit withheld, and then received an unsubstantiated demand for £920 more. I received no breakdowns or invoices. Highly unprofessional.
Probably the worst estate agents I've used, student let, had damp and mold in my room, they sent people around to check and said there was nothing wrong, even though my bedsheets were moist and I had countless dehumidifiers that were full after a single day. Had to move into a box room for the rest of the year, and I'm lucky that was available otherwise I'd have had some serious health issues. Halfway through the year we get an email saying the landlord has moved away from martin and co and they wont be dealing with us anymore. So had to deal with an unresponsive landlord for 6 months with no middle man. Absolutely no accountability, will leave you in the dust once you've signed the agreement and given you the keys. Went to Student Haven for my last few years, they were nothing but helpful, use them instead. EDIT - In response to the reply on this post. I actually left a review 10 years ago, I'd forgotten why I deleted it but thank you for reminding me it was because I was being harrassed by text and calls from you. - I'm not about to open that discourse again so please refrain from contacting me. Thank you for clarifying it was actually yourselves who severed contact with our landlord, leaving us in the property with no representation, there was actually no explanation back then apart from a single letter, letting us know you weren't representing us, no explanation why. - I would direct my frustrations at the landlord however you didn't leave us with a name or any relevant contact information for them. I received a marketing email from you after 10 years of hardly being a respected tenant and it just felt like the right time :)

We lived at 150 Lowerhouses Lane frrom 2023 to 2024 with many issues that was not sorted out beforehand moving in. The house had issues with leaking and black mold everywhere. Even with dehumidifiers everywhere the mold would grow back the next day no matter what treatment. I will always remember the first day we discovered a water damaged cupboard in the kitchen filled with black mold and the only response we received was "use bleach" when it was very clear the cupboard was fully damaged. Radiators did not heat up the house so that made the mold grow faster than ever during winter. The fan and window in the bathroom was too small and you can clearly see the landlord covered mold up with paint. Doesn't help that the paint would wipe off after one swipe. The main and biggest concern was the windows being stuck and with no way to air out or if a danger of fire happen they were stuck. The agency never did fix this throughout the year with no where to air some bedrooms. One of the bedrooms wall was damaged meaning leaking and drenched in water so the whole wall was covered in mold and at the time the other tenant slept in there and he was getting ill and it worsen his skin condition x2 with full body rashes. I told them the first day i have asthma and the mold will affect me and it did. Couldn't breath, out of breath, nose bleeds and hyper sensitive nose. At one point i lost my voice throughtout the week from inhaling mold whilst cleaning. One thing i forgot to mention is the ceiling fell in one of the rooms because of the landlord mistake covering up old ceiling with a new one meaning it weighed down and crashed. Luckily this was during the night so no one was injured but again no compensation or reduce of rent. The landlords were constantly on holidays meaning being irresponsible. Never helping and reduce the rent in fact the landlord was bragging about not putting the rent up one time. At the end the landlord agreed we could leave earlier than the contract but also threatened to not let us leave when we couldnt pay rent for 2 days even though we stressed the reason why we couldn't. He also took all the deposit plus try to charge us a couple hundred more even tho we was living in a mold ridden house for a whole year with no rent reduced and out health was affected. And when they did bug us about the extra charge it was during a hard time in our life where the other tenant called Simon Jones had recently lost his younger sibling and we didnt have the energy to fight back but we managed to reduce the charges where we only received £20 ONLY of the deposit back. Also one more thing is before we moved in the garden was severely overgrown and was hard to keep up since they never sorted it out. Never again will I use martin and co in the future and the landlords of the house should be ashamed of themselves. P.S. I have plenty more pictures on my pc of all the damages including the ceiling falling, overgrown garden on the first day including all the mld on the first day but currently on my phone writing this.
The worst estate agent I have ever dealt with. Moved into a property in Huddersfield which already had nails on the wall from rhe very beginning and accused us of putting them in when we moved out. They accused us of leaving boxes in the cellar which definitely wasn't true as those boxes were already down in the cellar when we had moved in. They kept more than half of our deposit by using these things as excuses. I'll make a special mention about Lisa Hollings who is extremely rude and extremely deceitful. Anyone using them as a estate agent. Please be warned and be extra careful when renting out a property. They also asked us to get a duplicate key made for them which I refused as they are the ones getting paid to maintain the house hence its their job to come to us and get the key made themselves. The cheek of them!!! And I shall also continue to post more negative comments about martin and co. I will not accept more than half of our deposit to be taken away from us. And then lisa holllings calls me up saying how upset she was at me using her name and that I shouldn't use it. She doesn't want to be embarrassed nor does she want people to know what she's like ! That is how much it bothered her. Lastly why else would they have a rating of 3.9 out of 5. It's clearly not good enough when you have useless people working for them!!!
