Charge customer for a expensive cleaning service, when ever the room got broken toile cover and unclean floor from the beginning.Even the wall are dirty with broken mirror on the wall. They don't even want to repair the house ,just continue checking and annoying.

Worst place I’ve ever stayed. Rats in the walls, filthy laundry machines that were unusable, and the lift broke down constantly. Martin & Co staff walked in on me while I was asleep, then tried to charge me hundreds for imaginary “repairs.” They kept my £400 deposit and demanded £920 more with no receipts. Place is a scam.

My experience with Martin & Co Huddersfield was full of broken promises. From the start, communication was awful — emails were ignored, and important updates were never passed on. I was told certain facilities would be working and clean, but the laundry room was filthy and constantly flooded, and the lift barely worked. When I raised concerns, they acted like it was my fault for expecting basic standards. I would not recommend them to anyone looking for honest, professional housing support. Disorganised, dismissive, and clearly prioritising money over tenant wellbeing.

The reason you have decided to leave 7 negative reviews under fake names is due to the issues that were found at the end of your tenancy. Your room was left in a terrible condition, which you have admitted too on the emails after photos were sent to you of the checkout. This has cost the landlord in excess of £1000 to put right. Due to family problems you advised you had to just up and leave without cleaning up after yourself. Smoking is not permitted in the building, yet you continued to do so in a sneaky manner by spraying cans and cans of air freshner, rolling a towel up at the back of your door and throwing cigarette butts out of the window. The carpet has cigarette burns around the window area, the walls have nicotine stains, you had sellotape around the walls which has pulled paint off. Food was left in the kitchen area that was out of date and smelly, milk left had 'gone off' again, unaccepatble. The furniture was left stained and unuseable for the new occupier of this room. The laundry room which you have full use of is cleaned on a very regular basis, it has never been flooded! The lift was isolated from the building many years ago to which all applicants are advised of. Should the room have been left as it was presented to you there would have been no issues.

I’ve never seen a lettings agency treat tenants with such little respect. There were times I came back to find my room entered without notice, lights left on, and no explanation. The communal facilities were neglected — filthy laundry room, frequent pest issues, and constant noise disruptions. It was clear the agency cared more about money than tenant wellbeing. If you’re a student or international renter, stay far away from this company — they see you as easy to exploit.

To add to your comments on this review - the lights are on a timer so cant be left on! We would have never entered your room for maintenance or checks without notification.

Avoid this place. Rats in the building, broken laundry machines that stink of dirty water, and the lift is always out of order. Staff entered my flat without permission, charged me after I left, and kept my deposit. Then asked for £920 more. Disgusting service.

I stayed at 34 Wood Street Studios through Martin & Co Huddersfield and had a nightmare experience. The studio had rats, the laundry machines were broken and filled with dirty water, and the lift barely worked. One of their staff entered my room while I was asleep and naked, without any notice. They charged me £586 for a month I didn’t live there, then demanded £920 extra for repainting and “damages” — after already keeping my full deposit. When I raised issues, I was ignored. Stay far away from this agency — they prey on students and international tenants.

Just to comment on your 'staff entered my room while i was asleep' this was 2 days after the end of your tenancy ended, you should have already vacated, but didnt! we were coming to do the end of tenancy checks, however you then answered the door and asked us to stay another month.

I was a resident at 34 Wood Street Studios. The building had severe hygiene issues — rodents, broken lift, and laundry units full of dirty water. My room was entered without consent while I was sleeping. I was wrongly charged an extra month’s rent, had my deposit withheld, and then received an unsubstantiated demand for £920 more. I received no breakdowns or invoices. Highly unprofessional.

I’ve never felt so disrespected as a tenant. During exam time, we were kicked out of the building daily from 9AM to 6PM. My flat had rats, and the laundry room smelled like sewage because the machines were flooded. The lift never worked. They charged me after I moved out and asked for hundreds more with no proof. This company causes stress and financial pain for students. Avoid.

Probably the worst estate agents I've used, student let, had damp and mold in my room, they sent people around to check and said there was nothing wrong, even though my bedsheets were moist and I had countless dehumidifiers that were full after a single day. Had to move into a box room for the rest of the year, and I'm lucky that was available otherwise I'd have had some serious health issues. Halfway through the year we get an email saying the landlord has moved away from martin and co and they wont be dealing with us anymore. So had to deal with an unresponsive landlord for 6 months with no middle man. Absolutely no accountability, will leave you in the dust once you've signed the agreement and given you the keys. Went to Student Haven for my last few years, they were nothing but helpful, use them instead. EDIT - In response to the reply on this post. I actually left a review 10 years ago, I'd forgotten why I deleted it but thank you for reminding me it was because I was being harrassed by text and calls from you. - I'm not about to open that discourse again so please refrain from contacting me. Thank you for clarifying it was actually yourselves who severed contact with our landlord, leaving us in the property with no representation, there was actually no explanation back then apart from a single letter, letting us know you weren't representing us, no explanation why. - I would direct my frustrations at the landlord however you didn't leave us with a name or any relevant contact information for them. I received a marketing email from you after 10 years of hardly being a respected tenant and it just felt like the right time :)

I have tried to call you this morning to discuss your comments as my records don't paint the same picture as your review. Though when I explained who I was, you quickly ended the call? We actually took the decision to not represent the landlord as they refused our requests for work, ultimately preventing us from doing our job. Perhaps your frustrations should be directed to the landlord of the property? I'm not sure what could have prompted you to provide your 'review' after nearly ten years, but we'd be delighted to discuss your concerns and perhaps confirm what actually took place.
