If I could put 0 stars I would. Absolutely outrageous experience and I haven’t even been to view a property yet. As someone who used to work in the lettings industry, and used the same referencing agency as Martin & Co I know exactly what the requirements to pass referencing are. My partner called their office to book a viewing, to be told we cannot view because there is no parking and we have a car. Now I can understand the reasons behind this decision, as it would be a waste of time, HOWEVER, they didn’t give her a chance to explain we already had parking and told her to “come back when we had sorted it”. I then called the office, to then find out it was actually because they had decided we didn’t meet their affordability criteria, 30 times the rent as per homelet, so £21,750 per year. My partner has earned well above this already this year and it isn’t even the end of the tax year! I spoke with a lady called Corrine, who made me feel extremely patronised, and was just down right rude, not even an inch of sales in her voice and she works in a sales office, laughable really. Both my partner and I felt like we were brushed aside because they have their sights set on a more “ideal” tenant. No wonder they are absolutely nowhere near their close competition in the market. Terrible terrible terrible.

The worst estate agents I've ever seen. I absolutely do not understand the reason why they do not accept the guarantor as a company, why they want only a person. Is there a difference when tenants are guaranteed by a person or a company? And what can you do as an international student? Becoming homeless? When I looking for a housing, I avoid this estate agents as much as possible. And I recommend the same to everyone.NegativeValue

referring to the Colchester branch My experience with martin and co was good up to a point, but the realization of there predatory business tactics highlights it as a company to avoid. when my contract with them ended they tried to bully me into a 12 month upfront contract, saying i was legally tied to this contract, sadly for them i know contract law and explained how they didn't know what they was talking about. That then moved on to them being petty for the rest of the time ive had to deal with them, they tried to charge me for the following: a used toilet brush that was there when i moved in?? a broken bath panel that was broken already when i moved in. (it was advertised with pictures of the bath panel broken at this point and they hadn't been to take pictures of my property due to covid) a lose toilet seat that was described as having a lose screw + £20 pound charge to them. ohh and the 120 cleaning fee, even though i had the carpets professionally cleaned and they had a painter in as i was moving out??? ohh and to top it of they sent my deposit as cheque. real shame as I'm planing to invest in a large sum of buy to lets in the future and was looking forward with working with them, but i do not want my finances and business to be connected to theses predatory business tactics.

STUDENTS BEWARE!!! I received a letter meant for my letting agent from this company suggesting they want to help them increase their level of income by increasing my rent. Please avoid renting from them at all costs they are clearly trying to take advantage of you.
