Landlords BEWARE - if you are using this company, check the file now, to see what else is missing. I ended up with Martin & Co by default, as they bought out the agent I was using when he retired. It appears that the owners of the franchise I have been dealing with since then sold the franchise on sometime in 2014 and I have since been dealing with the new owners. Apart from a letter in Feb 2015 to advise me there was a new Branch Manager, there was no other correspondence and I had no idea the company had changed hands. Recently, for the first time, there was a serious problem at my property (the boiler broke). Martin & Co not only did not help, they made the whole situation much worse by not communicating with me or my tenant (we didn't have each other's contact details). I was so disgusted with their service, I decided to move agents, at which point I now discover half the file is missing, including the inventory - which I was charged for. Due to the subsequent lengthy delay in getting the boiler fixed, my tenants have now decided to move out. With no inventory to prove the condition of the property when my tenants moved in, this leaves us both in a very vulnerable position. The current owners of Martin & Co Brighton's attitude was to shrug their shoulders and say it's not their fault, it's the fault of the previous owners of the franchise.

I would highly recommend NOT to use Martin and Co if you are looking for a place to rent. My boyfriend, a friend and I were looking for a flat, we visited one with them which we liked so we started the all process with them. During the visit we explained briefly our financial situation, and we explained that we all had guarantors, the agent was really reassuring concerning our situation, as long as we had guarantors. Before having anything signed, we had to paid 250 pounds EACH! 750 pounds for the three of us, for obscure fees like referencing fees, inventory fees, guarantor referencing fees...(and we had to negotiate for not paying twice the fees for the same guarantors as my boyfriend and I both had his parents as guarantor). We did paid that HUGE amount of money to do the referencing which was done by another company online. After a week of filling online documents (constantly having to get in touch with the company because of bugs in their website) We had a call from Martin and co saying that we fail getting through due to our financial situation. Fair enough, it was quite a surprise but let's move on. We asked them about our money and surprise 'none of your money is refundable'! They basically robbed us from 750 pounds, for what service? Everything they did was having a casual conversation on the phone about our situation and taking our money. Not once in the whole referencing process we had a real person in front of us, just a website interface. I would have understood that they kept 50 pounds each just for the fact they hold the house for us, but that amount of money is disgraceful. Of course we tried to get our money back, but they argued that we lied about our situation, and then they completely stopped answering our mail. We never received any justification of the reasons why we didn't get the house, not even a letter. I guess we were really naive trusting the agent with our money but never again. So DO NOT EVER pay them any money until you signed you let agreement.

This is the most rudest estate agent ever! The guy who says he is the manager and owner of the place is the rudest guy you will ever talk two. If you are a landlord looking to rent a place for long term this is defiantly not the place for you. I don't see any tenant wanting to staying with this company for more then 6 months, because it's that shit dealing with the "owner"

I am sorry for the experience that Jose had with Martin & Co but the owner described is now the previous owner. As of the 1st of January this Business now has new owners and I can assure you that all areas of customer service are of paramount importance to us .
