I have rented through The Property Centre for the past five years, and my experience has been up and down. At every inspection, the focus has been on criticising cleanliness. Photos are taken and I am told the property has not been cleaned to a satisfactory standard, despite the fact that the property itself is old, damp, and has received little to no meaningful updates or maintenance during my tenancy. There is a clear difference between lack of cleanliness and long-term wear, damp, and deterioration caused by poor upkeep, yet this distinction is repeatedly ignored. Tenants are quick to be accused of causing damage, while the agent fails to fulfil their responsibility to ensure the property is maintained to a reasonable standard. As a result, I now feel too scared to report issues when they arise, due to fear that I will be blamed or held responsible rather than supported. The inspections feel one-sided and unfair, placing blame on tenants while overlooking the landlord’s and agent’s obligations. After five years, I would expect a more balanced, responsible, and professional approach to property management. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience thought the years.
