This 2 star review was due to unprofessional dealings I have had with Natalie Ewans - the sales agent who double booked my viewing, and handed company documents over to me!
Extremely disappointing experience with this letting agency, particularly with the agent Grace. I had a property viewing scheduled and was already on my way when I received a cancellation call just 30 minutes before the appointment. No prior warning, no apology, and no attempt to reschedule or offer an alternative. This shows a complete lack of respect for other people’s time and commitments. I expected a far more professional approach — unfortunately, this speaks volumes about how they treat prospective tenants. Would not recommend.
Worst agency - stay away from these criminals. As a former tenant, I would like to share that Chestertons tried to impose a rent increase that was at odds with our tenancy agreement. Not sure where you come from, but in most countries violations of contract law are punished. It’s amazing that this agency still exists given their illegal practices. Since I see there’s shoutouts for particular employees on other reviews, let me do the same: Kudos to Daniel Toth for trying to sneak in rent adjustments without reason and for dragging on a conversation over 30+ emails without providing any factual evidence for a rent increase. The big bunch of flowers however goes to Matt Brooke, head of Tenant Pressuring Unit and master of one line “take-it-or-leave-it” email responses. We have written communication (inadvertently forwarded to us) documenting Matt Brooke’s orders to push us into acceptance in spite of their own legal advisers’ assessment that a rent increase would be at odds with our contract. After engaging with the tribunal, pro bono legal advisors, the Property Redress Scheme and finally Tenancy Deposit Scheme, we received our deposit back and of course no rent increase was charged. If I could give negative stars and report this company to the authorities to shut down this illegal operation, I would - but apparently this is not how things work in London and many tenants are being scammed by similar agents. Take care out there and avoid Chestertons!
After 1 year of legal battle and differences, we have finally been able to recover our full deposit. This agency tried to impose a rent increase that was completely at odds with our tenancy agreement on us. They have continuously tried to manipulate, gaslight, and threaten us to accept this illegal rent increase for months. We reported them to the Property Redress scheme and won. After that, they tried again to steal our money through the tenancy deposit scheme. Good thing they were smart enough to communicate an internal email trail showing how their own legal counsel had told them that the rent increase they were trying to impose on us was illegal. So we won again :) But it has taken us hours and hours of discussions, education, and patience to get there. I would advise that you save yourself the trouble and not approach this agency with a 10 foot pole it will be the best decision you made on that day.
This is the worst, most irresponsible, and rudest agency I have ever dealt with! They moved us into a disgusting apartment – broken ceiling, mold, leaking pipes. When I asked for help, the agent lied and ignored me until I had no choice but to hire a lawyer. Only then did they finally respond! Any repair took months of waiting, and at the end of the tenancy, they refused to return our deposit – ignored emails for a month! Only after persistent follow-ups and two months of waiting was the money finally returned. This agency is a scam. Unprofessional, unreliable, and arrogant. If you don’t want to go through hell, stay far away from them!
Rent from these people at your own risk. They offer the worst services ,send contractors into your apartment without your permission and when you complain they turn against you.I was forced to move out their property as I could not deal with the rudeness and poor treatment from staff. They started refurbishing my apartment with contractors running up and down the scaffolding and because I work nights,I had to start sleeping in a friends place during the day.And whenever I complained to them, they got rude.Even after I finally moved out, they completely kept my deposit silent and tried working with the landlord to retain the whole deposit. Now they try change their name from Madley thinking they can run away from all the bad deeds they have done.Use them at you own risk
this is the worst agency they don't service houses we live 2 weeks without water never go to them you will always have housing problems!
Scamming letting agent! Landlord be aware! This letting agent will take your annual letting fee in advance and will not refund if the tenancy ends early! We have let Madley manage our flat in Bermondsey and the single AST tenancy was between April 2022 to July 2023 over the length over 14.5 months. However, they have charged us 24 months of letting fee in advance. When the tenancy ends, they would not give the refund for the remaining period. Landlords stay away from these scammers!
The old Tesco self checkouts are more competent and worked faster than the employees at Madley. The best thing you will ever do is not rent through these people. Do yourself a favour a steer clear from these people. Just check through these reviews and count how many are made by people who have only ever made one review. And ignore the response which says I’m not in their system. I very unfortunately do live in one of their properties.

Estate agency, rethought We offer all the services you'd expect from an estate agent, and we love what we do, but we're not like other estate agents.
