Rented a property with them. When we moved in the house was a complete disaster and we would be able to give only 1 star as review, but with time they managed to build our trust back and didn't fail us ever since, hence the 4 stars.

Rented a property through Breckon for the past year. Generally a positive experience overall. Callum Hunt has been especially great - professional, friendly and caring (5 stars individually for him). For Brekcon as a whole, 4 stars as a solid service but sometimes quite slow at resolving maintenance issues and issues around inventory at the start of the year. Nonetheless, far better than any other Estate Agents I have used in Oxford.

Everyone is always going to be very nice and polite with you. They take a long time to reply to your emails but always end up being helpful, just expect delays when dealing with them. Stuff will be in the property that is not in the inventory when you move in, make sure you don’t leave it there or you’ll be charged for it when you leave.

All in all I've had a rather unsatisfactory experience with Breckon & Breckon in Summertown, Oxford. Their communication was poor, often requiring multiple follow-ups to get any response or action. Maintenance issues were neglected, causing unnecessary stress. For example, fire alarms left unchecked a long time past their certified date. Upon moving out, we faced unjust charges deducted from our deposit, having to go through the stress of countering them. We were left at their whim, and as tenants we found they will not work with you, you will feel like you are nothing but a means to an income for them. We were made to feel small and powerless, and I strongly advise future tenants who are going with Breckon to document everything meticulously, keep a paper trail, and ensure all agreements are clearly stated in writing, with nothing left implicit. Phone calls are discouraged. Being out of the absolute state the rental sector is in has been an absolute blessing.

As per your tenancy agreement the property is to be returned in the same condition as it was given to you in, unfortunately this did not happen and therefore this has led to end of tenancy charges on your deposit. Your landlord has kindly agreed to waiver internal charges, but external garden weeding was required. Please note that these charges can be disputed through the TDS if you feel they are unfair. At first they seemed nice and trustworthy. The process was quick and painless and they seemed quick to reply and offer their support. But after 6 months of me living in the property they are still failing to fix issues that I had raised even before entering the property. I don't know if they are incompetent or extremely inefficient.

We have been to few viewing they had to offer, while deciding the time of viewing they were just pushing us to get the time they provided and at such short notice reaching there was a task, even after the viewing was done, we were told they we would be receiving an application to be filled out so that they could select the best potential tenants, again.. no application was sent to us. We viewed 3 properties with them till date and 2 have already been let, without even sending us any application. I have called them 4 times now, and all I hear is “ohh so sorry we will send it to you” and blah blah.. if you didn’t ever want to rent out the property why even force us to waste our time just for a 10 minute viewing!!! I would never recommend this to anyone. Pathetic.

Unfortunately some senior management staff in the asset management team and wider company conduct themselves extremely unprofessionally and disrespectfully. This includes ignoring lawful requests, refusing to engage with leaseholder communication, and also profoundly unpleasant bullying and childish behaviour including slander and gossip. I have been appalled at the toxicity and deeply unpleasant behaviour displayed by Breckon & Breckon staff. I am currently in the process of a significant Tribunal and Ombudsman complaint, but Breckon & Breckon really need to start treating people how they would like to be treated, and show respect for people and their homes, rather than creating a deeply unpleasant and highly distressing experience for them.

We were excellent tenants who paid rent on time every month and maintained the property to the best of our abilities, yet Breckon & Breckon attempted to withhold £517 from our £1,125 deposit - nearly half of what we paid. They charged us for window mechanism repairs that were carried out a month after we vacated and after the property had been re-let to new tenants, despite their own check-out report making no mention of any window damage. They also tried to charge us £300 for bathroom redecoration due to "mould damage" when their own inventory photographs clearly showed the bathroom ceiling was already chipping and black with mould when we moved in. We had no choice but to take the dispute to independent adjudication through mydeposits. The adjudicator reviewed all the evidence and awarded the landlord just £10 out of the £517 they claimed, effectively rejecting 98% of their deductions. This result speaks volumes about their approach to deposit deductions. Breckon & Breckon may be good for landlords who want an agent that will aggressively pursue deposit deductions, but tenants will only suffer from unfair charges and having to fight for what is rightfully theirs. If you do rent through them, take extensive photographs at check-in, document everything, and be prepared to challenge any unreasonable deductions. Good tenants deserve fair treatment, not to be used as a revenue source for routine property maintenance.
