Horrible experience applying to be considered for a rental property with Arden. Not only did we have to pay the full ‘deposit’ in order to submit our application for the property without confirmation of receipt of this deposit, I was asked inappropriate questions about whether I was currently in my overdraft though I had provided plenty evidence of proof of funds. The reasons for denying our application were flimsy and suspicious, but reading between the lines it is possible this company is simply racist and discriminatory given I had provided my photographic ID clearly showing I am a person of colour. Highly discourage anyone from applying for a rental property with Arden especially after 15 years renting from various agencies and landlords in Edinburgh with no issues. No apology was provided and the experience was wholly denigrating. The line of questioning was intrusive and unnecessary. It was clear they were simply looking for an excuse to deny the application and it is unclear whether our application was actually discussed with the landlord. I have never been so insulted and egregiously treated in my life by a property agency. I hope they engage their staff in sensitivity training and exercise more empathy when it comes to tenancy considerations, especially given the nature of the housing market. We had a stellar recommendation from our previous letting agency.
