I have had this experience with a few agencies, so perhaps it is an industry wide practice. If so, it should change. I rang Belvoir at 13:05 today to enquire about a property in Rugby. The agent on the phone said the property is available, and will send a virtual viewing link as well as some questions. At 13:45 I replied with in depth answers to the questions, and expressed my interest in the property. I then get an email back asking which property I am interested in. I did want to ask the representative to literally scroll up on the email thread, however I again confirmed the property and my interest. I am then told the landlord is already considering applications and they will be in touch if any applications drop out. This is just over an hour after I was told on the phone the property is available. Horrible practice. Clearly more interested in clicks and website traffic than the experience of the user. Evidently, Belvoir couldn’t give less of a toss about wasting people’s time as long as they’re still benefitting. Compete waste of my time and the agency.

Good morning Kyle and thank you for making contact with us about your experience. We are sorry to hear that you were not happy and would like to clarify our practice (and quite possibly the other local agencies, as you have also had the same experiences from them too). When you initially enquired about the property, it was still available and as promised, we immediately sent you a link to view the property online. We also sent you a link to all of the other properties we had available in case these may be suitable too. When you confirmed which property you were most interested in, we replied to advise that the landlord was considering a couple of applications and should anything "fall through" we would be back in touch. We did not want you to go to the trouble of completing our application forms, only to be told the property had been taken. The rental market is moving very quickly at the moment, and we try to be as responsive as possible and to keep the people enquiring, as up to date as we can. I am aware from your last email to us, that you considered that we had wasted your time but please be assured, this is not our intention, and we try to be as honest as we possibly can. We wish you good luck in finding your new home.
