My partner and I had a good experience when we first rented with this agency, but ending our tenancy was an absolute NIGHTMARE!!! While the landlord was reasonable and easy to negotiate with, the letting manager made the entire process far more difficult than it needed to be. There was a clear lack of flexibility or willingness to resolve things amicably. What should have been a simple end to our rental turned into a frustrating ordeal. We would not rent through them again and would caution others to think twice.
Poor service and unprofessional conduct throughout tenancy I would strongly advise avoiding Martin & Co based on our experience as tenants. Rent Disputes & Misinformation: Currently dealing with a 2-month ongoing dispute where they're trying to overcharge rent beyond what's permitted in our contract. Initially told us rent review clauses didn't apply, then completely misinterpreted the contract terms when they realized they were wrong. Basic contract comprehension seems lacking. Property Condition: Moved into a dirty, untidy property with no proper check-in process. No one from the agency was present to document the property condition, leaving us vulnerable to deposit disputes later. Maintenance Issues: Response times for repairs are appalling - we're talking months, not days or weeks. Overall Service: Unprofessional communication, lack of basic property management knowledge, and what appears to be deliberate attempts to overcharge tenants beyond contractual agreements. Save yourself the headache and choose a different letting agent. There are plenty of professional property management companies in Oxford that actually understand tenancy law and provide decent service.
An absolutely awful real estate agency. They are incapable of reading emails longer than one sentence, my agents were absolutely useless and it came to a point that I had to explain to them that now EU citizens need visas too because of Brexit, which someone whose job it is to check Right to Rent documents should know. This did not stop them from wasting my time on many occasions further regarding why I need a visa (?). Every conversation with the agent was excruciating, as they did not seem to comprehend information. Avoid if possible. It made moving to the UK and renting my first flat an unnecessarily stressful experience. I am unable to reply to the response from the owner, but I was a tenant in 2022. I am not talking about the wrong agency, I most definitely remember this experience correctly. The main correspondence was with Abi, but there were a few other agents involved.
Booked on Saturday about a viewing with them on Monday, then they cancelled it without telling me, I had to figure this out after walking down to the property for 30 mins and waited for 30 mins and then call to find out what happened. Can't believe this.
Be warned, we have had a really terrible experience with Martin+Co Oxford. They are off-hand in their approach to clients and left us hanging in a very desperate situation. They are totally money focused and the human side of the transition is swiftly swept out of the way. It's only the money. Do not expect compassion or kindness from them, they are hard! Never have we had a stressful dealings with an agency before this time. We have been through extreme duress and stress with them. We are now taking our case with Martin+Co Oxford to the Property Ombudsman. If you have a choice, go somewhere else.
