Avoid John Shepherd at all costs. Very unprofessional service! My experience with John Shepherd was one of the most stressful, time-consuming, and costly experiences I have ever had. When I needed to leave my tenancy early, I tried to do everything properly, including finding a replacement tenant myself. Instead of being given clear guidance on the process, I was met with confusing information, aggressive and intimidating correspondence, inconsistent financial figures, repeated payment demands, and constant references to court action and County Court Judgments while the amounts being claimed were still being disputed. Different members of staff gave me different balances, charges appeared and later disappeared without explanation, and supporting evidence for some charges was only provided after I repeatedly requested it and raised formal complaints. Communication was poor, confusing, disrespectful and unnecessarily pressuring,throughout. After taking my complaint through John Shepherd's complaints process and then to The Property Ombudsman, the Ombudsman recognised shortcomings in their communication, accepted that the inconsistent figures caused avoidable confusion, aggravation and inconvenience, and the agent increased its goodwill compensation following the Ombudsman's involvement. The entire process took months, caused unnecessary stress, wasted a huge amount of my time, and had a real impact on my studies and work. Based on my experience, I would never use John Shepherd again and would strongly advise others to think very carefully before renting through them.
