Purchasing: The experience was marred by unprofessionalism and belittling behaviour. I dealt with nine different personnel at Intercounty (including the Stortford and Leicester branches), none of whom were qualified solicitors. Issues were left unresolved for extended periods. 1. An agent exclaimed the seller was to put the property back on the market, in an effort to push the sale through quicker. Little did they know I was in touch with the seller who was not aware of this conversation. By Collins definition this is known as 'subterfuge'. The covenant was written in ye olde English, and as my elected legal "solicitors" they were unable to understand the paper they were conveying, ad libitum. Then, they frustratingly bluff me when I am waiting for their responses. 2. The application was still in the previous applicant's name, a situation that took a frustratingly long 6 months to resolve and state my name. On numerous occasions, I attempted to contact my 'solicitor' (conveyancer), only to be met with silence. The conveyancer's lack of direct answers and interest in my concerns was disappointing, especially considering the significant amount of money I had paid for their service. This lack of aftercare support was a stark contrast to what one would expect from a service provider dealing with such a large financial transaction. 4. Renting: My partner and I rented a property for 2 years with Intercounty prior to the above purchase. One of the staff members entered our home to conduct a rental check. When we returned we noticed personal items were moved. The oblivious rep left it on MTV Base, he remarked on his interest for the TV on a previous visit. Not a channel that we watch. All trust was withdrawn and they were wondered why we no longer let them in unattended. - They acknowledged this happened but did not apologise. I had given up contacting them, asking if there were any outstanding payments that were needed to be paid upon the purchase and they said "NO". A couple of weeks later I received a bill for £550 for the previous lease holder in 2015. Called Intercounty, again, the conveyancer was not available and will get back to me... I will never trade with them again. There are plenty of other professional, trustworthy and reputable companies to do business with. Pros: Jenny is nice and helpful. I learned a lot of out-of-date Victorian vocabulary which provides an endless source of humour.
