During my tenancy, I experienced several issues that I believe prospective tenants should be aware of: • Rent reviews were proposed early, and I felt pressured to make decisions before the end of the fixed‑term contract, without clear justification at the time. • Repairs were not always completed promptly, including boiler and toilet issues. Other concerns—such as stained ceilings and damaged carpets—were not addressed during the early part of the tenancy. • No updated inventory was provided despite photographic evidence of pre‑existing damage, which raised concerns about deposit transparency. • Communication was inconsistent, with no single point of contact, leading to mixed messages. • When I raised concerns about repairs and rent increases, the communication became strained, and comments were made that I interpreted as inappropriate. Unfounded allegations were also made regarding data misuse, despite me acting entirely within my rights. These issues caused unnecessary stress and affected my confidence in the agency at the time. I encourage new tenants to request a detailed inventory, clarify rent review timelines, and ensure they fully understand their rights. Update: Following my review, Martin & Co reached out proactively and revisited all the points I had raised. They have now taken steps to address the outstanding issues, communication has improved, and we are in the process of signing a further one‑year contract. I appreciate the positive progress and hope it continues.
