**update** Chesterton's reply I was reimbursed for the 2 days of rent - I reimbursed myself by refusing to pay the full amount of rent after they ignored this request for 3 months. Avoid like the plague! It is beyond me how this agency has 4.8 average on Google reviews (paid) - see Reddit for more realistic reviews. In my 10 years of renting in the UK and in 3 major cities - I have never experienced worse professionalism than from Chesterton’s Kentish Town (Stevie Walton, Tanya Malik & Mariama Kamara were the people I had to deal with unfortunately). To start, we had arranged a month in advance and reminded them 2 days prior that a friend would pick up the keys on our behalf on Saturday within their working office hours, as we were driving for 9 hours with our belongings in a van. The office was closed 2 hours earlier than advertised and they refused to provide our friend with the keys. This effectively left us stranded and homeless for 2 nights until we could pick up the keys on Monday (their response to out-of-hours staff was “tell them to find somewhere else to stay”. Of course, they refused to refund us for the 2 days of rent for a flat we could not enter due to their incompetence, as well as the extra cash we had to cop out for the van. Incredible. Upon moving into the flat, we found it in dire neglect. The promised professional clean was not provided and it took us 2 days to clean the flat to a hygienic standard. Mould issues throughout. Broken freezer. Broken fridge. Missing front door dead-lock key. Some of these issues took months of ignored emails to resolve; others never did. As if it was bad enough - our flat flooded entirely from the ceiling and outer walls, resulting in obvious structural damage as a byproduct. Sunken roof in the living room, bubbled plaster on the bedroom side wall after filling with water, cracks along the walls and ceiling between rooms etc. We demanded that these issues should be fixed as it is illegal. After TWO MONTHS, a handyman apparently fixed a blocked issue and another contractor noted how bad the damage was and provided a quote for structural repair. The flat flooded for a second time, months later. The difference this time around is that our landlord has gotten rid of Chesterton’s for the same issues we faced (poor communication, unprofessionalism, lies etc.). The landlord was never presented with any quote for repairs and was entirely unaware of the structural damage to the property - Chesterton’s informed us that the landlord was aware, however, rejected to fix anything. Not only, but both the landlord and ourselves were blocked from contacting one another by Chesterton’s. If you want a tenancy agreement managed by petulant and incompetent children, by all means, choose Chesterton’s. Otherwise, take your money elsewhere (and good luck). I am happy to provide proof of all of my claims.
