Phoned Dawsons earlier today about a property to rent. I explained I wasn’t working due to disability and was told because of this I would need to pay 5 months rent in advance and also provide a guarantor. I’m unable to work. This is absolute discrimination against people with disabilities.
Please avoid letting from this agency. When we viewed our property we were promised new carpets as the ones already were grubby and stained. Alas we moved into a horror show of a flat - stained carpets, broken chairs, broken lightbulbs, broken shelves, stained mattresses, skid marks in the toilet, empty crisp packets in drawers, random false eyelashes, mouldy shower etc. We complained relentlessly when we moved in and the only thing that was responded to was that the chairs belonged to the previous tenants and not the landlord so - not their problem. Throughout our year living here we were almost overcharged 2 grand for our electric bill and were told we risked eviction within a week due to the landlord not paying bills. We were offered no support and extremely little information other than we may or may not be evicted extremely soon. Throughout the year we fixed chairs, lightbulbs and cleaned thoroughly upon moving and a large amount of our deposit was still withheld due to the stained carpets, mattresses and broken lightbulbs. The staff are the biggest waste of space, wasted a full week being told 3 different story's about renting a property, it turned out in the end they just didn't want me to rent the house, surely thats the landlords decision not theirs, im seeking legal advice as its victimization. They also said the only way i can rent this property was if i earned £15,500 a year, me and my partner earn £20,000 between us, when i told them this they ignored the email.
