As the title says, I've just posted a review on their Google review with an example of the service provided. I fully believe that it's not their whole team but the people I have dealt with on their behalf regarding buying a property have been less than professional. "Misplacing" deeds and not telling us and when we were told from the seller and seen the letter they received from their solicitor, we tried contacting them for them to ignore us, a habit we experienced through the buying process but now we've moved in and been advised that 2 months later, they have made even more mistakes.
Highly impressed with Gilson Gray in particular Julian Scott who was able to assit in very short notice!. 2 Weeks from the close out date I had to swap mortgage lenders due to their speed of proccessing the application. The new mortgage lender did not have my previous solictors on their pannel in which i was advised by my mortgage broker that this would cause delays and I'd possibly miss the deadline. They forward me onto Gilson Gray who were already on the pannel where Julian Scott took on my purchase and within the same day redrafted and sent the offer letter! Thanks Gilson Gray!
I was recommended to Gilson Gray Edinburgh by First Mortgage. Buying a property is always going to be stressful and there are always bumps in the road, that it is just what you expect. What wasn't expected was the poor service that Gilson Gray provided that made buying a property 100 times worse. First of all after my referral to them I was told that they would be in touch soon. I waited a couple of days and then gave them a call. They had passed me onto someone who would be my solicitor. He asked for all the initial documents which I sent promptly. 2 weeks had passed and I had not heard anything. No replies to emails and no replies to numerous messages left with the receptionist. Then on week 3 I phoned again and was told that he was no longer with the company and that someone else would be taking over the case. That day I was passed to someone else. And the property purchase process started. All is well but the poor communication continues throughout the process (6 weeks) most of the time I had no idea what was going on. Few expected hiccups with the legal side but doesn't excuse the poor service. We finally got our keys only later to find out that the previous owner still had them. We were also told that it would take 6 months for all our final documents to be sent to us...hmmm doesn't sound right. We continuously tried to email our solicitor about the keys and a few other issues that needed to resolved but we hear nothing back. I then wrote a formal complaint and received a snide response that never really resolved our issues and didn't excuse the poor service. Cherry on top of the cake was that we then receive a tax penalty because they submitted the land tax return 10 days late. We are currently trying to resolve this also. In summary Gilson Gray don't care about you, they are always out of office, if you leave a message to get someone to get back to you expect not to hear anything. 6 months for electronic Deeds etc is ridiculous. They don't finish the job that you pay them for. They should have spent less time making their office look good and more time on their clients. So if you want to make a bumpy ride even more bumpy then go with Gilson Gray.
